Overview

The Community Developer is a frontline JDC role designed to strengthen Jewish communities across Europe and Africa-Asia region. This position serves as a strategic partner to local community leadership, helping align local needs with JDC’s regional and global priorities while supporting sustainable, high-impact community outcomes. Community Developers work within a shared regional framework and collaborate across countries and programmatic areas to deliver meaningful community development initiatives.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct ongoing assessment of community needs and translate insights into actionable plans.

• Support the design and implementation of strategic programs aligned with JDC’s Theory of Change.

• Ensure that interventions connect local needs with regional opportunities and goals.

• Contribute to measuring program effectiveness through data-informed decision-making.

• Build and maintain trusted partnerships with community leaders, institutions, and partners.

• Act as a bridge between the Europe, Africa-Asia region and local communities, promoting shared priorities.

• Serve as a connector across institutions and stakeholder groups.

• Participate in the creation, coordination, and implementation of community initiatives.

• Support the lifecycle of interventions, ensuring quality, fidelity, and strategic alignment.

• Collaborate with colleagues in working groups focused on programmatic areas.

• Provide advisory support to community partners using relational, analytical, and strategic tools.

• Contribute to capacity-building efforts, including leadership and governance strengthening.

• Communicate compelling impact stories that demonstrate program value.

• Support preparation of funding requests aligned with regional strategy and projected impact.

• Steward resources responsibly and contribute to transparent reporting.

• Coordinate with colleagues to align programmatic needs with Community Initiative Fund processes.

• Work independently while maintaining a one-region mindset.

• Collaborate cross-functionally with colleagues across Europe and Africa-Asia.

• Demonstrate adaptability, cultural sensitivity, and readiness to travel as required.

Requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in social sciences, nonprofit management, community development, public policy, education, or related field (or equivalent experience).

• 3-5 years of experience in program coordination, community engagement, NGO work, social impact projects, or similar roles.

• Experience working or volunteering in Jewish communal settings.

• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build trust with diverse stakeholders.

• Solid analytical and problem‑solving skills.

• Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

• Strong written and verbal communication skills in English; additional European languages are a plus.

• Comfort with data-driven decision-making and basic monitoring & evaluation concepts.

• Digital proficiency (Office365, shared workspaces, presentation tools).

• Collaborative team player with a region-wide perspective.

• Curious, reflective, and eager to learn.

• Adaptable to changing priorities and capable of regular regional travel.

• Motivated by mission-driven, community-centered work.

Location: Europe or Israel

The position will be in a hybrid/remote format, depending on the candidate’s location.
