Position: Assistant Teacher (J-Cation)
Pay rate: $18 per hour
The Opportunity
The J-Cation Assistant Teacher helps create a safe, engaging, and fun environment for children during school closure days throughout the school year. J-Cation is a school-break program similar to a summer camp, offering children opportunities to participate in games, sports, creative arts, swimming, special programs, and other recreational activities.
The Assistant Teacher works as part of the J-Cation team to supervise children, lead activities, support daily programming, and help ensure that every child has a positive and enjoyable experience.
This position is ideal for individuals who enjoy working with children, creating engaging activities, and being part of an energetic team.
How I Will Contribute
- Supervise and actively engage children throughout the J-Cation program day.
- Assist with maintaining a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for all participants.
- Lead and/or assist with age-appropriate games, sports, arts and crafts, swimming, and recreational activities.
- Assist with transitions between activities, meals, breaks, and other portions of the daily schedule.
- Encourage positive behavior and help children develop teamwork, cooperation, and social skills.
- Follow established safety procedures and program policies.
- Communicate appropriately and professionally with children, families, coworkers, and supervisors.
- Assist with maintaining clean and organized program spaces and equipment.
- Monitor children's whereabouts and activities at all times in accordance with program procedures.
- Respond appropriately to children's individual needs and communicate concerns to the appropriate supervisor.
- Assist with opening and closing program responsibilities as assigned.
- Complete required documentation and training.
- Perform other duties as assigned to support the successful operation of J-Cation.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED or 1 full year of working with children under 13.
- 18 years of age or older.
- Ability to complete NYS Office of Child and Family Services background check.
Schedule:
- Flexibility in doing a 9 to 6 shift or a 7 to 4 shift on the below days with an hour unpaid lunch.

- October 9: Brighton Superintendent’s Day
- October 12: Columbus Day/Indigenous Peoples’ Day
- November 11: Veterans Day
- November 25: Thanksgiving Recess
- December 23–24: Winter Recess
- December 28–30: Winter Recess
- January 18: Martin Luther King Jr. Day
- February 15–19: Mid-Winter Recess
- March 10: Eid
- March 22–26: Spring Break
- April 9: Brighton Superintendent’s Day
