POSITION SUMMARY:

The Agency Security Director provides strategic leadership, direction, and oversight for all aspects of the JCC’s security, safety, and emergency preparedness programs. This position is responsible for developing, implementing, and continuously improving security operations, risk mitigation strategies, crisis response protocols, and protective measures that safeguard people, facilities and community, while fostering a safe and welcoming environment for staff, members, participants, and visitors. This position requires extensive certifications and permits as listed below.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Strategy & Risk Management:

  • Develops, implements, and continuously evaluates comprehensive security, emergency preparedness, crisis response, disaster recovery, evacuation, and workplace violence prevention plans across all agency locations.
  • Evaluates organizational vulnerabilities and provides recommendations to senior leadership regarding security enhancements, risk reduction strategies, and long-term security planning.
  • Establishes and maintains security policies, procedures, standards, and best practices that support organizational operations and risk mitigation objectives.
  • Ensures compliance with applicable laws, regulations, grant requirements, and industry standards related to safety, security, privacy, and emergency preparedness.

Emergency Response:

  • Serves as the agency's lead security professional during critical incidents, directing investigations and coordinating response efforts with law enforcement, emergency management personnel, homeland security partners, and other relevant agencies.
  • Monitors and assesses emerging threats, including terrorism, targeted violence, antisemitism, public safety concerns, and other security risks. Communicates relevant intelligence and threat information to organizational leadership and stakeholders as appropriate.
  • Builds and maintains strong relationships with local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies, homeland security partners, emergency management organizations, Jewish communal security networks, and other community stakeholders.

Security Operations & Continuous Improvement:

  • Oversees the operation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of all physical security systems, including surveillance equipment, access control systems, alarms, communication systems, and other protective infrastructure.
  • Oversees security department operations, including scheduling, payroll administration, performance management, and adherence to established protocols and procedures.
  • Develops and manages departmental budgets, staffing plans, resource allocation, and capital investments related to security infrastructure and operations.

Leadership, Training & Organizational Readiness:

  • Leads the training, development, and readiness of security personnel and all agency staff, ensuring employees are equipped to respond effectively to emergencies, security incidents, and critical events.
  • Develops and delivers security awareness programs, training initiatives, and communications to promote a culture of safety and preparedness throughout the organization.

General Responsibilities:

  • Ability to lead security operations, manage complex situations, and make sound decisions in dynamic and high-pressure environments.
  • Ability to effectively lead people, resolve challenges, and build collaborative relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Possesses a strong blend of strategic leadership, operational expertise, and diplomatic skill, with the ability to balance security priorities with a welcoming and customer-focused environment.
  • Conducts security patrols and ensures that proper protocols are in place throughout the agency.
  • Ensures that property is protected from theft, fire and accidents.
  • Performs First Aid and facilitates the arrival of emergency personnel and provides appropriate documentation of all incidents and accidents as needed.
  • Works closely with security personnel to ensure proper staffing levels with an emphasis on special and after hour events.
  • Ability to remain calm and composed when dealing with difficult, irate or emotionally upset people and situations, both in person and over the phone.
  • Ability to remain calm in difficult, dangerous and high stress emergency situations.
  • Works effectively with other key JCC departments to provide effective and efficient service delivery.
  • Ability to define problems, develop solutions, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to manage and balance a variety of responsibilities in a fast-paced environment under tight time constraints.

  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays, as required.
  • Ability to travel, as needed.
  • Ability to perform other related duties, as needed and/or required.

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES:

While performing the above duties, this position routinely requires handling persons and/or objects and moving safely throughout the building. This position may include walking, sitting, climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling. This position requires communicating, either verbally or in writing. This position frequently requires moving items weighing up to 25 pounds. This position occasionally requires moving items weighing up to 100 pounds. Must be able to complete all essential functions of the job with or without reasonable accommodations.

Full time and part time security personnel

SUPERVISION RECEIVED:

Supervision from Chief Integrated Services Officer

QUALIFICATIONS:

Bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice, Criminology, Homeland Security, Emergency Management, or a related field preferred. Minimum of five (5) years of experience in law enforcement, corporate security, government security, homeland security, or a related field, including supervisory or leadership responsibilities.
