JCC MetroWest is seeking a dependable, hands-on Camp / Facilities Technician to help maintain safe, clean, and fully operational facilities across two locations:

Camp Deeny Riback (CDR), Flanders, NJ (March–October)
JCC MetroWest Campus, West Orange, NJ (November–February)

This role is essential to ensuring a safe and welcoming environment for campers, members, staff, and visitors. The ideal candidate is proactive, mechanically inclined, and committed to high standards of safety and service.

Schedule

  • March–October: Based at Camp Deeny Riback (some evenings/weekends required)
  • November–February: Based at JCC MetroWest (shared evenings/weekends)

Key Responsibilities

At Camp Deeny Riback (CDR)

  • Perform general maintenance and light construction (repairs, painting, flooring, fixtures)
  • Set up and break down tables and equipment for camp activities
  • Support daily camp operations:
  • Refill water stations
  • Remove trash and replace liners
  • Assist with lunchroom setup/cleanup
  • Respond promptly to maintenance requests and review daily logs
  • Conduct regular inspections to identify and resolve safety hazards
  • Safely manage tools, materials, and equipment at all times
  • Follow all camp safety policies and procedures
  • Collaborate with the facilities team to support camp operations

At JCC MetroWest (West Orange)

  • Complete work orders and respond to maintenance/radio calls
  • Set up meeting and event spaces
  • Receive and organize deliveries and supplies
  • Perform general building maintenance:
  • Replace light bulbs, switches, plumbing fixtures
  • Light painting and minor repairs
  • Assist with office moves and facility setup need
  • Open and close the building as required
  • Maintain outdoor areas, including trash collection

Qualifications

  • Experience in building and grounds maintenance required
  • Experience supporting large facilities or events a plus
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Strong problem-solving skills and sound judgment
  • Flexible and able to adapt to changing priorities
  • Basic English communication skills required
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation
  • Ability to operate vehicles and maintenance equipment
  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Willingness to work evenings and weekends as needed

Physical Requirements

  • Lift, push, and pull 50 lbs or more
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, and climb for extended periods
  • Comfortable working indoors and outdoors across both locations
