JCC Chicago is looking for individuals that love adventure to lead groups at the NEW high ropes course and climbing wall at the Bernard Weinger JCC in Northbrook.

Job Description:

Responsible for instructing and leading groups through an outdoor climbing wall and ropes course, and/or indoor high ropes course, and facilitating a safe, challenging, and fun participant experience, from beginning to end (including gear/equipment fitting and removal). This position requires applicants to be comfortable working both outside and inside, and at heights. Applicants must have strong presentation skills and be comfortable talking with and guiding participants through safety and set up. They must possess a calm presence and support participants through the experience.

While prior experience and/or high ropes certification preferred, it is not necessary and JCC Chicago can provide required training.

Scheduled Work

JCC Chicago’s ropes courses are available for organization and community events, schools, youth groups, rentals, and more. Rope course facilitators will work on a part-time hourly basis as events are scheduled. Typical events will be 2-3 hours on weekday evenings and weekend daytime, plus approximately 1 hour for equipment set up/clean up.

Key Essential Job Duties:

  • Must be at least 18 years old.
  • Comfortable with heights.
  • Demonstrate physical stamina and agility required to be mobile for scheduled sessions.
  • Ability to work and collaborate in a team environment.
  • Clearly and effectively communicate in a manner that children understand.
  • Supervise children, always keeping them in sight and sound.
  • Know the difference between appropriate and inappropriate behaviors. Prevent, circumvent, and deal with problem behaviors appropriately and effectively.
  • Maintain a sense of calm and perspective with physical and mental alertness during stressful times.
  • Ability to run up to 100 yards (in the case of an emergency).
