Holocaust Center Educator

Position Summary

The Holocaust Center Educator supports the educational mission of the George Gottlieb Institute's Mania & Max Nudel Holocaust Learning Center (MMNHLC) by developing and delivering engaging Holocaust education programs for students, educators, and community members. The position focuses on Holocaust education, civic engagement, public programming, and intercultural initiatives that promote understanding, combat antisemitism, and inspire action against hatred through education, dialogue, and the arts.

Essential Responsibilities

Holocaust Education

  • Facilitate educational programming within the MMNHLC for students, educators, and community groups.
  • Develop lesson plans, educational resources, and age-appropriate learning experiences aligned with curriculum standards.
  • Conduct school visits, guided tours, workshops, and teacher training sessions.
  • Assist with docent recruitment, training, scheduling, and continuing education opportunities.
  • Maintain relationships with schools, educators, universities, and community partners.
  • Ensure historical accuracy and educational excellence across all educational offerings.

Community Engagement & Public Programming

  • Assist in the planning and implementation of lectures, panel discussions, commemorations, exhibitions, performances, and cultural programs.
  • Support initiatives that address antisemitism, prejudice, civic responsibility, and social justice.
  • Develop opportunities, engage diverse audiences and encourage meaningful dialogue.
  • Foster relationships with faith communities, civic organizations, cultural institutions, and nonprofit partners.

Exhibitions & Interpretation

  • Coordinate the development of temporary exhibitions and educational displays within the MMNHLC.
  • Collaborate with scholars, artists, educators, and community members to enhance visitor engagement.
  • Contribute to exhibition research, educational materials, and visitor experiences.


The Overlap (Grant-Funded Program)

  • Support the planning and implementation of The Overlap, a grant-funded intercultural engagement initiative that celebrates cultural diversity through comedy, music, art, literature, and film.
  • Assist in developing programs and community partnerships that foster dialogue, strengthen relationships across diverse cultural, ethnic, and religious communities, and promote understanding through shared experiences.

Outreach & Partnerships

  • Build and maintain relationships with educators, school administrators, and community organizations.
  • Promote Holocaust education opportunities throughout the region.
  • Represent the MMNHLC at educational events, conferences, and community programs as needed.

Marketing & Communications

  • Contribute educational content for promotional materials, newsletters, and social media platforms.
  • Assist with outreach efforts to increase awareness and participation in Holocaust education programs.
  • Support public presentations and educational initiatives that highlight the Center's impact.

Administration

  • Maintain program records, attendance data, and educational metrics.
  • Assist in evaluating program effectiveness and participant outcomes.
  • Support grant reporting, educational assessments, and institutional partnerships as needed.
  • Coordinate volunteers, docents, interns, and program participants.

Mission Impact

The Holocaust Center Educator plays a vital role in preserving Holocaust memory and fostering meaningful learning experiences that inspire empathy, understanding, and civic engagement. Through education, dialogue, and community partnerships, this position helps empower learners to confront antisemitism, challenge hatred, and contribute to building more inclusive and compassionate communities.

Minimum Qualifications:

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree required; Master's degree in History, Holocaust Studies, Museum Studies, Education, Public History, Jewish Studies, or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum three years of experience in education, museums, cultural institutions, nonprofit organizations, or related settings.
  • Demonstrated experience teaching, facilitating educational programs, or working with diverse audiences.
  • Strong knowledge of Holocaust history, Jewish history, and contemporary antisemitism.
  • Excellent written, verbal, and public speaking skills.
  • Ability to engage learners of varying ages and backgrounds.
  • Strong organizational and project management skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with educators, volunteers, and community partners.

Salary:

$55,000 - $65,000
