Principal Responsibilities:
JOB SUMMARY
The Adventure Course Attendant is responsible for ensuring a safe, engaging, and supportive environment for children participating in the Camp Sisol adventure-based play areas, including climbing structures, obstacle courses, and outdoor activity zones. This role oversees daily operations of the adventure course, assists children as they navigate equipment, and ensures all safety protocols are always followed. The Attendant encourages active play, supports skill-building and confidence, and promotes positive social interactions among children.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Provide continuous supervision of participants as they climb in the Adventure Course.
- Encourage participation in physical activities that promote gross-motor development, confidence, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
- Communicate effectively the safety instructions.
- Ensure participants follow safety guidelines appropriate for their age and developmental level.
- Ensure participants correctly wear required protective gear such as harnesses and helmets, providing hands-on assistance as needed.
- Communicate effectively with staff and leadership regarding child behavior, safety concerns, or incidents.
- Implement positive behavior management techniques and safety regulations.
- Maintain the safety of the structure, equipment and participants.
- Report all concerns and incidents to the supervisor.
OTHER DUTIES
- Performs all other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- At least 18 years of age.
- High school diplomas or equivalent required.
- One year of experience working with children less than 13 years of age preferred.
- Experience working in an outdoor athletic capacity.
- Current CPR, AED and First Aid certifications preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
- Demonstrate professionalism, collaboration, reliability, and a strong commitment to early childhood education.
- Strong communication, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.
- Attentive, energetic, and comfortable supervising young children in both structured and free-play activities.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT
- Frequently required to use hands to handle or feel; and reach with hands and arms
- Frequently required to stand, climb unbalanced surfaces, and bend
- Possess the strength, endurance and vigilance required to maintain constant supervision of children in a noisy and busy environment
- Ability to be active and climb within the ropes structure
- Ambulatory ability to manage uneven ground, steps and ropes course
- The employee must be able to lift and/or move up to 55 pounds
- Comfortable with heights and spending extended time outdoors in summer weather
- Primarily outdoors
- Exposure to varying weather conditions during outdoor activities.
- Active, fast-paced environment with consistent child interaction with movement.
