Principal Responsibilities:

Riverdale Y is a community and cultural center located in the Riverdale neighborhood of the Bronx. We provide educational, recreational, cultural, and wellness programming for children and adults of all ages. The Riverdale Y is rooted in universal values central to Jewish life. The part-time Volunteer Coordinator will focus on working collaboratively with individual departments at Riverdale Y to secure volunteers for all events and happenings.

Job Functions:
The duties below are the most significant responsibilities that are essential for effective performance in this role. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Commit to 10-15 hours of agency support based on internal and external volunteer needs.
  • Coordinate monthly with department directors regarding volunteer needs.
  • Solicit and secure volunteers for the agency as needed with outreach to local schools, synagogues, corporate partners, and community organizations.
  • Maintain a centralized volunteer database to track service hours, placements, background checks, and contact information.
  • Communicate specific departmental needs with designated volunteers on day of service.
  • Coordinate onboarding for new volunteers, including applications, interviews, orientation, and required documentation.
  • Ensure all volunteers complete necessary background screenings and comply with agency policies and safety procedures.
  • Coordinate summer internship program through SYEP.
  • Create and distribute volunteer schedules, confirmations, and reminder communications.
  • Track and report volunteer impact metrics, including service hours and program outcomes.
  • Plan and implement volunteer recognition and appreciation initiatives to promote retention and engagement.
  • Collect feedback from volunteers and department staff to continuously improve the volunteer experience.
  • Assist with coordination of volunteers for special events, holiday programs, and community-wide initiatives.
  • Order necessary supplies for events as needed.
  • Represent Riverdale Y at community outreach events to promote volunteer opportunities.

Minimum Qualifications:

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in nonprofit management, administrative
    or related fields.
  • 2+ years of experience in volunteer coordination.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and volunteer management platforms (e.g., Better Impact, JotForm, Mailchimp, Monday.com).
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks, stay organized, and meet deadlines.
  • Passion for community engagement and the mission of the Riverdale Y.
  • Knowledge of the Riverdale community or experience in community-based organizations.
  • Creative thinker who is proactive and solutions-oriented.

Compensation: $24/hr ($50,000 prorated annually)
