Principal Responsibilities:
Day Camps@The J is seeking a passionate and knowledgeable Gardening Specialist to lead engaging, hands-on gardening activities for our campers. This position is ideal for individuals aged 21 and older with experience in gardening or farming. The Gardening Specialist will inspire campers to connect with nature, learn about sustainable practices, and develop an appreciation for growing their own food.
Key Responsibilities:
- Program Development: Design and implement age-appropriate gardening activities that teach campers about planting, growing, and harvesting plants and food.
- Hands-On Instruction: Lead daily gardening sessions, guiding campers through hands-on experiences in planting, watering, weeding, and harvesting.
- Environmental Education: Teach campers about sustainability, composting, and the importance of environmental stewardship.
- Garden Maintenance: Oversee the upkeep of the camp's garden spaces to ensure they remain safe, functional, and aesthetically pleasing.
- Collaboration: Work closely with other camp specialists and counselors to integrate gardening activities into the overall camp curriculum.
- Camper Engagement: Foster a positive learning environment where campers feel encouraged to explore and ask questions about gardening and nature.
Work Environment:
- Seasonal Position: Employment runs from late June to early August with mandatory pre-camp training sessions.
- Schedule: Monday through Friday, 8:30 AM to 4:15 PM.

Minimum Qualifications:
Qualifications:
- Age Requirement: Must be 21 years or older.
- Experience: Prior experience in gardening, farming, or plant cultivation is required. Experience working with children in an educational or camp setting is preferred.
- Skills: Strong communication skills, creativity in activity planning, and the ability to engage children of various ages in hands-on learning.
- Physical Requirements: Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions and perform physical tasks related to gardening.
