Principal Responsibilities:
The Shimon and Sara Birnbaum Jewish Community Center is seeking a skilled and motivated Aquatics Supervisor to help lead our Aquatics team and oversee daily operations at our thriving community center. This full time Sunday through Thursday position plays a key leadership role in our mission to provide a safe, inclusive, and welcoming environment for all community members. From program development to staff training to facility oversight, the Aquatics Supervisor is central to shaping outstanding Aquatics experiences at the Shimon and Sara Birnbaum Jewish Community Center.
Key Responsibilities
- In conjunction with the Senior Director of Aquatics and Recreation develop, coordinate, and evaluate all aquatics programming including lap/recreational swim, group swim lessons, private/semi private/special needs swim lessons, rentals and special events
- Serve as the Summer Swim Club Director which is open from Memorial Day to Labor Day. The Summer Swim Club director is not only responsible for day to day operations of the Summer Swim Club but also responsible for planning social events and activities, entertainment, and other related Summer Swim Club events.
- Recruit, hire, onboard, train, and supervise our part time lifeguarding staff
- Recruit, hire, onboard, train, and supervise our part time group swim lesson instructors, and our private/semi private/special needs swim instructors
- Provide weekly direct programming support including swim instruction, lifeguarding,swim team coaching, and American Red Cross certification classes as determined by the Senior Director of Aquatics and Recreation and the Chief Operating Officer
- In conjunction with the Senior Director of Aquatics and Recreation, track and oversee certification and recertification of lifeguards, group swim lesson instructors, and private/semi-private/special needs swim instructors
- Lead monthly in service trainings and promote a culture of safety and continuous improvement
- Monitor staff performance, support professional development, and implement disciplinary actions as needed
- Ensure daily operations meet Bridgewater Township, New Jersey Department of Health, and federal safety/sanitary requirements
- Assist with the daily supervision of pool systems including water chemistry, filtration, and heating
- Completing weekly general pool maintenance tasks such as manual vacuuming, skimming, power washing, scrubbing, etc.
- Maintain accurate records and reports including scheduling, participation data, certifications, facility checklists, training documentation, and incident documentation
- Work in conjunction with the Head Coach and the Head Age Group coach of the JCC Bridgewater Tide to assist with the development of additional swimming program as it relates to Aquatics
- Respond to patron inquiries and resolve concerns in a courteous, timely manner
- Demonstrate sound judgment, adaptability, creative problem solving, and empathy when responding to evolving situations and community needs
- Evaluate challenges, explore alternative solutions, anticipate potential outcomes, and implement strategies that support department goals
Minimum Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications
- Two (2) years experience in aquatics program management, pool maintenance, administration experience, and staff supervision
- Two (2) years of direct supervisory experience
- Bachelor's degree in in recreation, physical education, business, or a related field (or equivalent combination of experience and training)
- Strong communication, leadership, and organizational, and problem solving skills
- Proficiency in computer systems including recreational software, Excel, WhentoWork, Amilia/Daxko, etc
Required Certifications (ability to obtain within 90 days of hire)
- American Red Cross Lifeguard Training (LGT)
- American Red Cross Lifeguard Instructor (LGI)
- American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor (WSI)
- Certified Pool Operator (CPO) or Aquatics Facility Operator (AFO)
- Valid driver's license

THE SHIMON AND SARA BIRNBAUM JEWISH COMMUNITY CENTER is a non-sectarian social service agency located on 14 acres on Talamini Road in Bridgewater. The JCC opened its doors to the community in December 1999 after years of planning and fundraising by a passionate group of local families that were driven to bring a JCC to our tri-county area.
The JCC is an agency of the Jewish Federation of Somerset, Hunterdon and Warren Counties and serves residents of Somerset, Hunterdon and Warren Counties with fitness, recreation, social, cultural and educational programming for the entire community. The JCC is the central address of our widely spread, diverse Jewish community and serves as coordinator and locale for many community-wide events and for programs of Jewish education & culture. Universal humanistic Jewish values and ethics serve as the foundation for our JCC. The JCC is governed by a Board of Directors that works with JCC Professional Staff to fulfill our mission of providing quality programs and services to meet the needs and wants of the Jewish and general communities.
The JCC facility includes heated indoor and outdoor salt-based pools. A dome enclosed outdoor pool is available in the off-season for year-round use. The JCC has a newly renovated and expanded fitness center, group fitness studio, spin studio and gymnasium. We offer more than 70 group fitness classes/week, including the internationally acclaimed Les Mills Fitness Program.
