Principal Responsibilities:
POSITION SUMMARY:
The Homework Support Teacher will work with children in grades K-6 enrolled in the Riverdale Y's after school program to ensure all homework is completed each day. This role requires patience, strong organizational skills, and the ability to support a wide range of learners with varying needs and abilities. The ideal candidate will foster a positive, structured, and supportive environment that helps children stay focused and build confidence in their academic skills.
The Homework Support Teacher will work Monday-Thursday from 3:30-6:00 PM. If all homework is completed before dismissal, the teacher may leave early. Pay rate is $30/hour.
Minimum Qualifications:
Responsibilities:
- Supervise and support children (grades K-6) during homework time in the after school program.
- Provide individualized attention to students as needed to ensure understanding and task completion.
- Encourage good study habits, focus, and independence in completing assignments.
- Communicate with after school staff about any academic challenges or patterns observed.
- Maintain a calm and positive learning environment that promotes respect and focus.
- Dismiss students back to classroom once all homework is completed and checked.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent required; some college coursework or background in education/tutoring preferred.
- Prior experience working with children, preferably in an educational or after school setting.
- Strong organizational and communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple grade levels simultaneously.
- Patient, flexible, and supportive approach to learning.
