Principal Responsibilities:
Job Overview:
Under the supervision of the Aquatics Director and Assistant Aquatics Director, the Lifeguard is primarily responsible to ensure safety through vigilance and prevent drownings. The Lifeguard is secondarily responsible for performing routine chemical checks, helping to assist set up of swim areas, and basic routine cleaning in and around the pool.
Minimum Qualifications:
Key Responsibilities, in coordination and consultation with the Director/Asst. Director , include:
- Embodying an outgoing and enthusiastic personality at all times.
- Strong customer service while enforcing all policies and procedures
- Reporting to work in uniform a minimum of five minutes prior to the assigned shift
- Explaining and enforcing rules and regulations
- Maintaining a pool deck cleanliness
- Maintaining proper records
- Responding to emergencies in an efficient and professional manner
Qualities and Qualifications:
- Age 18 or older
- Currently certified Lifeguarding/CPR/AED/First Aid (required)
- Being familiar with the facility Emergency Action Plan
- Participating in continuing education activities through both internal and external sessions to promote an on-going development of the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for instructors.
- Physical effort required for daily duties includes lifting heavy weights, squatting, bending, reaching, spotting, and prolonged standing/walking.
- Must be able to lift and/or move 50+ pounds.
Salary: $20 per hour
This is a part-time, in-person role, with occasional evenings and holidays throughout the year.
Shift times: Sunday 6:45am to 9:45am; Monday 5:15am to 8:15am; Friday 5:15am to 8:15am

The Riverdale Y is a 50,000 sq. ft. Jewish Community Center that provides educational, recreational, cultural, and wellness programming for children and adults of all ages.
