About ICS

The Institute for Curriculum Services (ICS) is a national nonprofit organization dedicated to improving the quality of K-12 education on Jews, Judaism, and Jewish history in the United States. We do this by working with publishers and content developers, developing high-quality instructional materials, and providing professional development to classroom teachers.

The Western Educator, as part of the ICS Professional Learning team, performs a variety of functions in support of the organization’s mission, with particular focus on (1) Scaling professional development for educators to support accurate and nuanced classroom instruction, and (2) Increasing educators’ knowledge and confidence to teach Jewish history topics.

Position Overview

ICS seeks a motivated, dynamic, and innovative education professional to join our Professional Learning team. The Western Educator will maintain a portfolio of the following states: OR, WA, NV, ID, MT, WY, UT, CO, AZ, NM. The Western Educator will be responsible for establishing and nurturing relationships with potential professional development partners within those states with the goal of delivering ICS trainings. Note: California is not included in this portfolio. This position requires regular travel (45%) and flexibility to work evenings and weekends for training events.

IMPORTANT: We are looking for candidates who live in Arizona, Washington, or other states within the region described above.

Key Responsibilities

  • Outreach and Relationship Building
    • Develop a deep understanding of the educational and professional learning landscape within the Western region.
    • Convey ICS’s value when talking to different stakeholders.
    • Maintain working knowledge of Western states’ education policies and academic standards as they relate to and support ICS content.
    • Leverage ICS and personal networks to set up professional development opportunities for schools, districts, and other education institutions in the Western region.
    • Establish partnerships that advance opportunities to deliver professional development to new audiences of educators.
  • Delivering Professional Development
    • Maintain a deep knowledge of ICS content and professional development offerings.
    • Become an expert ICS workshop presenter, maintaining a high level of professionalism, fluidity, tech capabilities, and engagement.
    • Travel to in-person workshops and conferences, staff exhibition booths, and deliver ICS workshops at conferences.
  • Data and Logistics Management
    • Maintain a list of region-wide conferences and submit tailored proposals to present.
    • Promptly input relationship-building efforts and relevant professional development data in ICS CRM.
    • Book necessary travel arrangements (e.g., flights, hotels, etc.), adhering to ICS travel and budget policies.
    • Promptly submit travel-related expenses for reimbursement.
  • Organizational Support
    • Attend and actively participate in regular meetings with the Director of Professional Learning, the Professional Learning team, and the larger ICS staff.
    • Manage and contribute to occasional special projects/opportunities as assigned.

Qualifications and Requirements

You are:

  • Passionate about ICS’s mission and its potential to impact student learning through historically accurate and nuanced content
  • An exceptional communicator and presenter with the skills to lead engaging professional development workshops and sessions for a variety of audiences
  • Capable of constructively navigating conversations in a variety of settings around complex and potentially sensitive historical topics
  • Highly organized, strategic, and detail-oriented, with a track record of managing multiple projects and meeting deadlines
  • Proactive problem-solver and collaborative team member
  • Highly adaptable, with a growth mindset and a willingness to give and receive feedback.
  • Up for traveling to events and conferences

You have:

  • Bachelor’s degree or beyond in history, education, Jewish studies, English, or related field
  • Experience in a K-12 educational setting (preferably as a social studies teacher or education administrator)
  • Proficiency in Google Workspace (Docs, Sheets, Slides, Drive) and Zoom
  • Comfort with CRM software or willingness and ability to quickly learn new software tools
  • Preferred: In-depth knowledge of current trends, pedagogical best practices, and challenges in K-12 social studies education
  • Preferred: Strong understanding of state and national social studies standards (e.g., C3 Framework, state-specific standards) and how to connect content and professional learning with them

Compensation

$75,000-$78,000
