About the Position
Honeymoon Israel is seeking a full-time professional for the role of Chief Development Officer (CDO) to play a pivotal role in its organizational growth. The CDO is a key executive leadership position, reporting directly to the CEO. The CDO will be responsible for managing the Development team, guiding the implementation of HMI’s overall development strategy,
designing and implementing a new major giving program to elevate HMI’s visibility, and securing funding to expand HMI’s impact.
The CDO will be a seasoned, resourceful, bold, and energetic fundraiser who will focus on
targeting high-potential gifts, developing important relationships, and building networks of
support with key individuals. The CDO will effectively build the major donor prospect pipeline,
cultivate donor relationships, and secure and steward major gifts from individuals including HMI alumni, as well as foundations.

Key Responsibilities
Strategy, Fundraising & Development Communications (75%)
- In partnership with the CEO, advance the overall fundraising strategy to support the sustainability of the organization by providing project management and oversight for all HMI professionals involved with Development
- Design and oversee the implementation of the fundraising strategy, including all regional and local fundraising initiatives, events, and touchpoints.
- Work closely with the CEO and Board of Directors to solicit major gifts and to develop tailored proposals that align with donors’ interests and the organization’s priorities.
- Manage a personal portfolio of prospective individuals and institutional donors and deepen these relationships through regular, relevant communications and stewardship.
- Conduct applicable research on existing and new major donors and prospects.
- Strategically engage CEO, alumni, existing donors and funders, and HMI team members in the donor relationship development processes as appropriate to maximize their expertise and optimize fundraising.
- Develop and implement strategies to raise awareness of the organization’s mission and to engage and mobilize new supporters.
- Engage the board in donor acquisition and stewardship through training, motivation, and support.
- Represent the organization at community events, conferences, and other public forums to enhance the organization’s visibility and influence.
Management and Oversight (25%)
- Serve as a key member of the executive leadership team, working collaboratively with the CEO and other senior leaders to implement the organization’s mission.
- Manage day-to-day activities of the development and donor-centric communications functions, including budgeting, planning and staff development.
- Develop aggregate donor information and statistical analysis of donation patterns.
- Ensure that reporting and campaign tracking systems are complete, efficient, accurate, monitored for quality control, and in alignment with development goals.
- Actively manage the Director of Development and provide oversight of the full development staff (Institutional Giving Manager, Development and Strategy Operations Associate, and administrative staff), and identify and implement professional development opportunities.
- Mentor and develop staff using a supportive and collaborative approach on a consistent basis.
Key Qualifications and Position Details
Key Qualifications
- 7 – 9 years of professional major gift fundraising in a nonprofit organization.
- Proven track record in the development and implementation of a comprehensive giving program including major donor pipeline development, cultivation, solicitation, stewardship and fundraising events, funder relationship management, communications planning, and project management.
- Exceptionally gifted communicator who both enjoys and excels at all dimensions of the major donor relationship building cycle.
- Excellent interpersonal skills to establish and maintain positive relationships with donors, prospects, alumni, influencers, and the Board.
- Experience working in a multi-site and virtual work environment, and managing remote/virtual staff is a bonus.
- Strong management skills, both strategic and operational, and a demonstrated ability to build, manage, mentor, and motivate an effective interdepartmental team.
- Ability to passionately communicate HMI’s mission, accomplishments, and benefits of
its work.
Position Details
- This is a full-time, remote position and will require significant monthly travel. Candidates must reside in the U.S.
- The CDO will report directly to Honeymoon Israel CEO Avi Rubel.
