Role Overview

Columbia/Barnard Hillel is seeking a driven, outgoing IACT Engagement Coordinator who will skillfully balance and accomplish two key goals: developing relationships with under/unengaged Jewish students and guiding them to the next step in their Jewish journeys on campus, especially through participation in Columbia/Barnard Hillel’s Birthright Israel program.

Immersive experiences like Birthright Israel often comprise the most transformative moments in a Jewish college student’s journey, and our IACT Engagement Coordinator will be the lead professional in ensuring that our campus’ Birthright Israel experience is more than just a trip. From registration, to staffing the trips, to post-trip follow up,Birthright Israel will be your fundamental framework for engaging students and deepening their connection to Jewish life on campus. This is a unique opportunity for someone who is skilled in building relationships, social media, organizing, marketing, event planning, and program development. The ideal candidate must be able to demonstrate outstanding interpersonal skills and previous successful implementation of creative ideas, either from their own college experience or previous employment.

This role will report to the Senior Director of Engagement and will work closely with the Engagement Team and broader Student Life Team to reach our goals of engaging all Jewish students on campus in ways that are meaningful to them. This position is in-person with some evening, weekend, and Jewish holiday responsibilities.

What You’ll Do

• One-on-one Engagement: You are first and foremost an engager! Meet students on campus for coffee, tea, or a snack in order to build authentic relationships and to help connect students to friends, community, and experiences. While you will meet with students from varying backgrounds and lived experiences, your focus will be on first year students who are under engaged or not yet engaged in Jewish life on campus.
• Birthright Engagement: Identify and connect with students who are under-engaged and/or interested in participating in a Birthright Israel trip; Spearhead and coordinate all aspects of the Birthright Israel experience such as marketing, registration, pre-trip preparation and more; Staff a winter and summer Birthright Israel trip.
• Community Building: Build community through connecting students to like-minded peers and meaningful opportunities
• Student Empowerment: Recruit and oversee a cohort of student leaders to broaden your engagement work on campus
• Serve as an active member of the broader Student Life Team by staffing Kraft Shabbat Dinners and other Hillel-wide experiences, including holiday celebrations and large-scale social events

• Bachelor’s degree required and 0-3 years of relevant work experience.

What You’ll Receive

• Competitive salary in the non-profit marketplace. The salary range for this role is $50,000-55,000, commensurate with experience.
