Role Overview

Brown RISD Hillel is excited to be seeking an outside-the-box thinker, instinctual networker, and creative producer to serve as the Judith Green Blumberg z"l Coordinator for Arts Engagement. In a role unique in the Hillel ecosystem, the Coordinator for Arts Engagement will develop deep relationships with a broad network of Brown and RISD students, connecting them with resources and mentorship, convening them in thoughtful communities of learning and collaboration, and elevating their work through exhibitions, galleries, and performances. The Coordinator for Arts Engagement, in partnership with BRH’s executive and assistant directors, will oversee implementing an expansive set of resources and programmatic models designed to transform the experiences of art-focused Jewish students and to center art as a significant platform for Jewish engagement, most broadly, on College Hill. BRH’s Coordinator for Arts Engagement will ensure that art, in its variety of expressions and media, will come to serve as a prism through which all students can more subtly and with greater nuance approach the complexities of Jewish history, meaning, and community.

What You’ll Do

  • Develop relationships with a broad network of arts-focused students at RISD and Brown.
  • Ferociously support distinguished student artists in bringing their creative visions to reality.
  • Develop BRH’s role as a meeting place and platform for student artists as well as for national and global Jewish creatives.
  • Connect student artists with BRH’s network of gallerists, professional artists, historians, and collectors.
  • Coordinate visiting artists series and immersive trips for students to NYC and beyond.
  • Recruit for and facilitate a year-long fellowship for student artists and performers who will gather for dialogue, exploration of Jewish text, and to foster creative collaborations on Jewish themes.
  • Work in collaboration with Hillel partners to design and recruit an arts-focused Birthright trip.
  • Plan a bi-annual Campus Summit for Jewish Arts, convening Jewish student artists, Hillel professionals, thought leaders, and funders for two days of networking, learning, and collaboration at Brown RISD Hillel.
  • Liaise with BRH’s trustee Arts Committee
  • Develop collaborative relationships with university partners and national organizations and initiatives.
  • Collaborate with BRH colleagues to center the arts in broader BRH programming.
  • Be present for evening and weekend programming including staffing Shabbats, welcome events, and student initiatives.

  • Knowledge of contemporary global Jewish art and artists and trends in the broader arts universe.
  • Experience producing art events (visual, musical, dance, performance, etc.)
  • Optimism about the possibility of Jewish culture, identity, and tradition serving as a source of meaning for emerging Jewish artists.
  • Passion for getting to know new people.
  • Entrepreneurial and collaborative spirit.
