Who are we?
Jewish Federation of Greater MetroWest NJ is a nonprofit organization that serves the Jewish community in Essex, Morris, Sussex, Union, and parts of Somerset County in NJ. Our mission is to convene and lead our community to ensure the continuity and strength of the Jewish People, to support a secure Jewish and democratic State of Israel, and to care for Jews in need locally and around the world. Federation enables community members to engage in meaningful ways, impact the lives of others, and access valuable resources.
Hillel of Greater MetroWest NJ (Hillel GMW) is a multi-campus Hillel that serves 6 campuses in Central/Northern NJ. Schools include Montclair State University, Seton Hall University, Kean University, NJIT, Rutgers Newark, and Fairleigh Dickinson (Madison campus). Hillel GMW's mission is to create a strong and welcoming Jewish community on campus, to facilitate meaningful experiences for students, to foster Jewish education and awareness, and to help develop and grow students' Jewish identities, their connection to Israel, and their relationship with the world. Hillel of Greater MetroWest is affiliated with Hillel International and Jewish Federation of Greater MetroWest.
What you'll be working on
You will be focusing on student engagement and programming. Candidates should have experience working with young adults, a passion for Jewish life, and the ability to think creatively. We are looking for someone who is a self-starter, is excellent at engaging with 18-22 year olds, and is familiar with social media, data entry, and office work. You’ll wake up each day (or at least most) and be genuinely excited to create an inviting place that inspires students to explore, experience, and create vibrant Jewish lives. This is so much more than your average 9-to-5. Specific responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Find and engage Jewish students on campus and virtually, and nurture their involvement with Hillel.
- Actively contribute to shaping our Hillel programs by mentoring and training student leaders.
- Organize and keep track of student engagement on each campus
- Help students plan and implement events and programs on campus and virtually
- Works with the Hillel Director to communicate with campus administration to make sure the needs of students are met
- Attend regular Hillel conferences, and benefit from ample professional development opportunities from Hillel International
- Opportunity to travel to Israel to staff our local Birthright Israel trips

About you – preferred requirements for this role
- Bachelor’s degree
- Strong entrepreneurial spirit.
- Things may not always go according to plan, and you must be willing to take risks and learn your wins and losses.
- Confidence in creating, initiating, and running programs and comfort in asking questions
- Outgoing, friendly, and engaging personality
- A passion for Judaism and the belief that our work isn’t done until all Jewish students have the chance to connect to Jewish life on campus
- Strong knowledge of Google Suites and social media
