POSITION SUMMARY:

HIAS Europe is coordinating Neighbours II, a transnational EU-funded project implemented in Belgium, France, Germany, Spain and the Netherlands. Building on the success of Neighbours I, the project aims to counter antisemitism, xenophobia and other forms of discrimination by:

  • engaging young people (aged 13–24) through interactive educational visits to synagogues;

  • building local interfaith and intercultural coalitions.

The project is implemented by a consortium of Jewish congregations, European Jewish networks and civil society partners, with HIAS Europe serving as coordinator.

HIAS Europe is seeking a Project Manager to join its team in Brussels, Belgium or to work remotely from Berlin, Germany. The Project Manager will be responsible for the overall operational management and coordination of the Neighbours II project. This includes ensuring timely, high-quality implementation of project activities, compliance with EU grant requirements, effective coordination with consortium partners, and delivery of all contractual outputs, reports, and deliverables. The role combines strategic coordination, day-to-day project management, donor compliance, and stakeholder engagement, with a strong focus on quality assurance, gender mainstreaming, and risk management.

The salary range for this position is EUR 1,935 gross per month, part-time 50%, 1-year contract, extendable.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Liaises with consortium partners and subcontractors to ensure the successful, timely and high-quality implementation of all project activities across all work packages.

  • Provides day-to-day project coordination and support to partners on administration, budget planning, donor compliance and activity implementation; organises and chairs monthly online consortium meetings to review progress, risks and next steps.

  • Oversees overall project management, including planning, coordination, risk management and quality assurance, in line with the Grant Agreement and donor-approved Description of Action.

  • Ensures effective monitoring, evaluation, accountability and learning (MEAL) of all project activities, including tracking indicators, coordinating partner reporting, and contributing to the external evaluation.

  • Ensures gender mainstreaming throughout the entire project cycle, and compliance with ethical standards, child safeguarding requirements, and data protection (GDPR).

  • Leads the development and implementation of a European Coalition Building model for Jewish communities, including oversight of content development, translation of resources and facilitation of coalition-building trainings.

  • Supports partners in establishing and sustaining their own local interfaith coalitions through mentoring, including in-person support visits and mentoring where required.

  • Holds direct responsibility for all project communication and dissemination activities, including implementation of the communication and dissemination strategy, coordination of project visibility and EU branding requirements, production and quality control of content (newsletters, stories, website and social media inputs), and support to partners on communication activities.

  • Ensures the quality, consistency and organisation of all project documentation, including narrative outputs, monitoring data, administrative records and financial documentation.

  • Coordinates and ensures the timely preparation, validation and upload of all contractual deliverables and reports to the EU Participant Portal, and maintains effective and consistent communication with the European Commission Project Officer.

  • Contributes to sustainability planning and supports complementary fundraising efforts linked to the project.

  • Collaborates closely with Administration, Finance, communication and advocacy colleagues to ensure coherent implementation, visibility and policy alignment.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:

  • Academic degree(s) in humanities, social sciences or any other relevant field.

  • 3-5 years of relevant experience.

  • Previous project management experience, ideally with EU-funded projects; experience working with the EU Participant Portal is a significant advantage.

  • Understanding of European Jewish communities and organisational structures would be advantageous.

  • Previous training and workshop facilitation experience.

  • Excellent organisational, writing, and verbal communication skills.

  • Experience with coalition-building in interfaith settings would be highly advantageous.

  • Excellent use of Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint) and shared document folders, as well as comfort in experimenting with other programmes.

  • Fluency in English required; fluency in French, German and Spanish would be advantageous.
