POSITION SUMMARY:

HIAS seeks a Finance Specialist to support the Country Offices (COs) and perform intercompany reconciliations. The role ensures that financial operations are conducted in compliance with organizational policies, donor requirements, and applicable international accounting standards. In addition, the Finance Specialist will support the recording of contributions at Headquarters (HQ), ensuring transactions are accurately and timely recorded in accordance with U.S. Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).

Note, this position is based at our headquarters in Silver Spring, Maryland.

The salary range for this position is $60,000-75,000.00.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Provide technical guidance to Country Offices (COs) on financial procedures, internal controls, and compliance requirements.
  • Support COs in audit preparation and assist in responding to audit queries and follow-up actions.
  • Review monthly financial reports submitted by COs to ensure accuracy, completeness, and compliance with organizational and donor requirements.
  • Ensure timely reconciliation of CO accounts and facilitate the resolution of identified discrepancies.
  • Assist with training and capacity-building support to CO Finance Managers, as needed.
  • Reconcile daily contributions received at Headquarters (HQ) with corresponding bank deposits to ensure completeness and accuracy.
  • Verify that cost centers assigned to contributions are accurate and properly coded.
  • Ensure contributions are recorded in a timely and accurate manner in accordance with US GAAP.
  • Maintain ongoing coordination with the Development team to reconcile and ensure proper integration of contributions within NetSuite (NS).
  • Perform assigned balance sheet reconciliations and support month-end closing activities.
  • Carry out other related duties and special assignments as required.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, or related field.
  • 4-6 years of experience in accounting.
  • Knowledge and application of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  • Experience with accounting systems. NetSuite experience is a plus.
  • Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel
  • Experience working in an international, NGO, nonprofit or multi-country organization, including support to overseas offices strongly preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience with donor-funded or restricted funding environments, including compliance, reporting and audit support.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to effectively prioritize multiple responsibilities.
  • Ability to deliver high-quality results in a timely manner.
  • Detail-oriented.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in multicultural settings.
  • Travel, to include travel to insecure operating environments, may be required.
