POSITION SUMMARY:

HIAS seeks a GBV Assistant to cover for parental leave for our colleague. The GBV assistant will be tasked with supporting and advancing initiatives within the Gender-Based Violence (GBV) department. The primary objective is to foster inclusive prevention and response programming aimed at mitigating the risks associated with GBV, with a targeted focus on women, adolescents, girls, and LGBTQI+ identified refugees and migrants. This role involves active participation in community awareness campaigns, planning and execution of comprehensive GBV activities, and supporting in the provision of GBV case management services. The overarching goal is to establish an inclusive service framework and a supportive environment where survivors of GBV, including LGBTQI+ identified survivors, feel welcomed and supported. The incumbent will play an important role in contributing to a safer and more secure space for vulnerable populations, fostering resilience, and promoting the well-being of those affected by gender-based violence.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Assist in developing the awareness raising campaign in November (16 days of activism).
  • Assist in creating materials related to the campaign.
  • Assisting in planning workshops and events and information sessions on the topic of GBV.
  • Assisting in the distribution and recording of hygiene kits.
  • Support GBV department as required.
  • Support in the logistics of carrying out support groups.

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:

  • MBO degree in social work or other related studies.
  • Current residency in Aruba and/or prior work authorization in Aruba required.
  • A minimum of 1 years’ working experience preferably in one of the following sectors: social, charity, government, or NGO.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of violence against women and girls specifically and GBV more broadly and the ability to work from a survivor-centered approach.
  • Fluency in English, Spanish is required (written and oral), Papiamento and Dutch are an advantage.
  • Ability to uphold the highest level of integrity and confidentiality.
  • Excellent computer skills; proficiency in Microsoft office suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook).
  • Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills.
  • Strong motivation to humanitarian work, service-oriented mindset, and sense of accountability.
  • Demonstrated ability to think creatively and critically.
  • Must be a team player and able to work with a range of diverse, vulnerable populations.
  • Passionate about HIAS’ mission and values.
  • Position for Arubans and persons with working permit in Aruba.
