The HIAS Foundation, established in 2021, is a 501(c)(3) public charity that supports HIAS in carrying out its mission to provide vital services to refugees and asylum seekers around the world and advocate for their fundamental rights so they can rebuild their lives. For more than 100 years, HIAS has proudly and resolutely worked to achieve protection for refugees, doing so from a place of deep grounding in Jewish values, history, text, and experience. HIAS brings our experience, history, and values to our work across five continents, ensuring that refugees today receive the vital services and opportunities they need to thrive. The HIAS Foundation has been established to secure planned gifts to ensure the financial sustainability of HIAS and offer supporters the opportunity to leave a lasting legacy that helps displaced people in perpetuity.

The HIAS Foundation Board is seeking an inaugural Executive Director to lead the new Foundation. The ED will lead the design, implementation, and promotion of planned giving strategies to sustain and grow the assets of the Foundation through planned giving efforts. The ED is responsible for planning, designing, and implementing strategies for cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship of individuals and institutions giving to the HIAS Foundation through bequests, trusts, named endowment funds, and other charitable gift planning vehicles. The ED manages relationships with the HIAS Foundation Board, to whom the ED reports, and supports communications between the Board of the HIAS Foundation and HIAS (including the CEO). The ED will work directly and cooperatively with the HIAS Vice President of Development and their team to ensure that messaging is consistent and information is shared between the two entities.

We welcome applications from experienced fundraising professionals who are excited by the mission of HIAS and the potential of the new Foundation. Candidates should have a deep-seated understanding of planned giving strategies and vehicles, with experience securing commitments for named endowment funds, trusts, and/or bequests/estate administration. It is highly desirable for the successful candidate to have knowledge of the American and/or international Jewish communities and to be comfortable representing HIAS, discussing refugee issues, and interacting with a diverse base of supporters.
