Compensation: $17-$25 an hour

Schedule: Weekdays after school until 6pm (flexible) ; Additional hours for professional development or program planning as needed

About the Position:

This is an exciting time to join Staten Island Hebrew Public in its second year. We are seeking a driven Afterschool Counselor that operates with a high sense of urgency and possesses a strong work ethic. Candidates for this position do NOT need to speak Hebrew. The School is fully committed to a culturally diverse faculty and student body. The school is eager to consider applications from traditionally underrepresented groups.

Job Responsibilities:

  • Lead and supervise students in a variety of activities, including arts and crafts, sports, homework assistance, and enrichment projects.
  • Design and implement age-appropriate activities that foster creativity, teamwork, and learning.
  • Maintain a safe, positive, and inclusive environment for all participants.
  • Monitor student behavior, provide guidance, and address any challenges with care and professionalism.
  • Work closely with other afterschool staff to ensure a cohesive and well-organized program.
  • Communicate effectively with parents/guardians, sharing updates on student participation and progress as needed.
  • Track attendance and maintain accurate records of student activities.
  • Follow school policies and procedures to ensure a secure and compliant program.

Minimum Requirements:

  • High School Diploma from an accredited institution is required;
  • Elementary and/or Middle School teaching experience preferred
  • Hold NYS certification in content area or working towards certification is preferred
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Legally authorized to work in the USA
  • CPR and First Aid certification (or willingness to obtain).
