THE ORGANIZATION
The Hebrew Free Loan Society (HFLS) advances economic stability and opportunity for lower-income New Yorkers within and beyond the Jewish community by making safe, affordable interest-free loans.
HFLS is the largest nonprofit interest-free lender in the United States. We have been making loans based on financial need to borrowers of all backgrounds since 1892. HFLS maintains a repayment rate above 99%, the result of a unique lending model that relies on guarantors to prevent default. As our loans are repaid, the capital is lent out again and again, helping more people and multiplying impact over time.
This year HFLS will lend approximately $30 million to nearly 2,000 households, and we strive to help more people every year.
THE OPPORTUNITY
To understand the needs of lower-income New Yorkers and help more people access safe, affordable credit, HFLS develops and maintains strong working relationships with dozens of nonprofit and community organizations, government agencies, educational institutions, and others that provide direct services to low- and moderate-income New Yorkers.
HFLS seeks a full-time Outreach Officer – a new role at the organization – to manage and expand HFLS’s network of referral sources and partner organizations throughout New York City, Westchester, and Long Island, with the goal of increasing the number of incoming applications and the sources of those referrals. The Officer will engage in a broad array of communications and outreach initiatives designed to raise awareness of and interest in HFLS among local organizations.
Reporting to the President & CEO, the Outreach Officer will also work closely with the Deputy Director and Communications & Development Manager to:
- Research, identify, and prioritize organizations and groups for outreach.
- Create HFLS presentations and materials for referral source staff and clients; keep them up to date, organized, and accessible to all staff.
- Gather information about these organizations’ programs and client needs to inform HFLS program development and operations.
- Maintain ongoing contact with these organizations and groups to keep HFLS front of mind, both through meetings and producing regular emails for a targeted email list.
- Enter and maintain up-to-date information about HFLS organizational contacts, meetings, and developments in Salesforce.
- Respond to relevant inquiries and requests for lending data from organizational contacts.
- Attend and promote HFLS at relevant conferences and events.
- Identify new marketing strategies and opportunities to raise awareness of HFLS among potential referral sources and applicants.
- Assist the Communications & Development Manager with drafting HFLS mass emails and social media posts about our organizational collaborations.
