Hannah Senesh Community Day School, a progressive, independent K–8 Jewish school in Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn, is hiring a part-time (Mondays and Tuesdays) Lower School Art Teacher for the 2026-27 school year with an immediate start. The ideal candidate is a warm, joyful, and skilled art educator who sees art as a powerful way for students to explore ideas, develop their voices, and connect creatively to Jewish life and the world around them. Salary range: $30,000 - $35,000, commensurate with experience. Responsibilities include:
- Teach engaging, developmentally appropriate visual arts classes to students in Kindergarten–4th grade.
- Develop students’ artistic skills, confidence, creativity, and ability to talk about and reflect on their work.
- Integrate Jewish traditions, texts, holidays, artists, and culture into the art curriculum.
- Use Hebrew naturally and purposefully in the art classroom.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers on interdisciplinary learning.
- Introduce students to a diverse range of artists and artistic traditions, including Jewish and Israeli artists.
- Create a classroom environment where students feel known, supported, and encouraged to take creative risks.
- Participating in faculty meetings and professional development as appropriate
- Maintaining documentation of curriculum and student progress
- Fulfill other duties and responsibilities associated with the role
Qualifications and Dispositions include:
- A degree in art education, studio art, education, or a related field.
- At least three years of experience teaching visual arts in a school setting, preferably with elementary-aged students.
- Native or fluent Hebrew speaker
- Strong knowledge of Jewish culture and holidays with the ability to bring Jewish learning naturally into the art classroom.
- A deep appreciation for the role of creativity, imagination, and artistic expression in children’s development.
- A whole-child approach that supports students’ academic, social, and emotional growth.
- Strong classroom management, organization, and planning skills.
- A Collaborative, flexible, and reflective teaching practice
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Cultural competence and a commitment to building a community in which every student feels known, valued, and that they belong.
- A willingness to learn, collaborate, and contribute to the vibrant Jewish life of the Senesh community.
