The Senesh School, an open and inclusive, independent K-8 Jewish school in Carroll Gardens, Brooklyn, is hiring a full time Hebrew teacher for a temporary leave position with an immediate start date. Our Hebrew program is grounded in the Proficiency Approach, engaging students through Israeli stories, authentic Hebrew texts and materials, songs, games, and celebrations. Instruction emphasizes the four strands of language acquisition—listening, speaking, reading, and writing—while fostering meaningful and joyful use of Hebrew. Hebrew language learning is woven into the fabric of daily school life and is purposeful, immersive, and engaging.

Successful candidates will be creative, dynamic, nurturing, and reflective educators who demonstrate a strong growth mindset. This position offers a competitive salary and benefits; $70,000–$80,000 pro-rated and commensurate with experience. Responsibilities include:

  • Develop a warm, inclusive, and supportive classroom environment
  • Teach 3rd- and 4th-grade Hebrew classes and an 8th-grade small group of Heritage learners
  • Maintain accurate documentation of curriculum and student progress
  • Incorporate Hebrew language into the daily life of the school through special programs and experiences
  • Differentiate instruction and materials to meet the diverse needs of learners
  • Build strong partnerships with parents to support student learning and growth
  • Collaborate with grade-level teams on community programs and student support
  • Attend weekly division and department meetings, as well as other professional development opportunities

Qualifications

  • Native or fluent Hebrew speaker with strong pedagogical skills; experience with Hebrew immersion preferred
  • Master’s degree in education or a Hebrew-related field
  • Specialized training and experience in second language acquisition
  • Experience teaching Hebrew using the Proficiency Approach and ACTFL guidelines
  • Ability to effectively integrate technology to support language learning
  • Commitment to a “whole child” approach that supports academic, social, and emotional development
  • Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to collaborate across disciplines
  • Cultural competency and a strong commitment to diversity, equity, and belonging, including openness to a range of Jewish thought and practice
