Agency Description
The Hebrew Educational Society, a thriving multi-service, comprehensive community center located in southeast Brooklyn, provides a diverse array of programs and services within a multicultural, multi-ethnic environment that is inclusive of people of all ages and ability levels. Programs include Early Childhood, After School, Camps, Athletic and Aquatic Activities, Older Adults & People with disabilities.
The Aquatics Director plans, develops, leads and coordinates aquatics programs for the agency including oversight of teaching and coordinating swimming lessons, maintenance of aquatic facilities, training aquatic staff, implementing and conducting a diversified aquatics program and performing other departmental and administrative activities as requested. The Aquatics Director demonstrates cause-driven leadership through H.E.S.' mission advancement, collaboration, community outreach, and operational effectiveness.
:
- Recruit, hire, train, develop, schedule and direct aquatic staff and volunteers as needed
- Ensure staff certifications are current and keep accurate records
- Teach CPR/AED/ First Aid classes
- Review and evaluate staff performance
- Develop strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals
- Coordinate, develop, and schedule swim programs (like, swim lessons, open lane swim, swim team, etc.)
- Monitor daily pool operations to adhere to all state, local and H.E.S. health and safety regulations
- Establish new program activities and expand programs within the community in accordance with strategic and operating plans
- Compile program statistics, monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of and participation in programs
- Conduct and ensure proper maintenance of the pool
- Maintain accurate records of pool chemical levels and facility maintenance
- Comply with all regulations, policies, work procedures and instructions
- Comply with all safety rules and use of all appropriate safety equipment
- Attend recognized aquatics safety trainings as well as other necessary trainings
- Assist in the marketing and distribution of program information
- Develop and monitor program budgets to meet fiscal objectives
- Respond to all aquatic inquiries and complaints in a timely manner
:
- BS in Recreation, Physical Education, or a related field
- Position requires a strong background in Lifeguard responsibilities and procedures with a minimum of five (5) years as a Lifeguard and/or Swim/Aqua Instructor
- CPR/AED/ First Aid Instructor Certifications
- Dependable and able to meet schedule requirements with no restrictions
- Must be available to work evenings and weekends
- Strong leadership skills, including the ability to manage conflict when necessary
- Excellent time management skills, including the ability to multitask and prioritize
- Detail-oriented and self-motivated
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Proficient in Microsoft Office, fitness-related software programs, and POS systems
- Working knowledge of all aquatics-related equipment and evolving industry standards
- Be a team player
- Enjoy working with youth and seniors
