Agency Description
The Hebrew Educational Society, a thriving multi-service, comprehensive community center located in southeast Brooklyn, provides a diverse array of programs and services within a multicultural, multi-ethnic environment that is inclusive of people of all ages and ability levels. Programs include Early Childhood, After School, Camps, Athletic and Aquatic Activities, Older Adults & People with disabilities.
Responsibilities:
- Responsible for planning, coordinating and teaching learn-to-swim and water safety courses
- Adapt teaching approaches to the age, experience and ability of participants, so they can meet course objectives
- Provide for the health and safety of participants, including ensuring that all teaching and practice areas are free of hazards, and that materials and equipment are safe
- Cover all material required in a level
- Communicate regularly with participants and their parents, as appropriate, to ensure they are aware of progress
- Recognize and respond effectively in emergencies in accordance with facility emergency action plans
- Enforce all aquatic facility policies, rules and regulations
- Complete records and reports
- Participate in regular in-service training sessions
- Performs related duties as required.
Qualifications:
- HS Graduate
- 2+ years of aquatics instructor experience
- Be familiar with American Red Cross Learn-to-Swim levels, other Red Cross water safety courses and know how to use course materials effectively
- Thorough knowledge and application of swimming and water safety skills
- Thorough knowledge and application of teaching swimming and water safety skills
- An understanding of facility characteristics, rules, policies and procedures
- Leadership and public relations skills
- Able to work under pressure handling a variety of responsibilities
- Available to work nights and weekends as required
- Candidates should possess an ambitious, entrepreneurial, startup personality.
Certifications:
- Must be certified as a water safety instructor and lifeguard
- Certification in CPR/ AED / mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.
- (Current certification in the following is preferred)
- American Red Cross Water Safety Instructor
- American Red Cross Lifeguard Training and First Aid
- American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer
- Other certifications required by local or state laws
Salary details: $20-$25 per 45 minute lesson, Part Time
Job Type: Part-time
Pay: $20.00 - $25.00 per hour
Schedule:
- 4 hour shift
- Day shift
- Evening shift
- Monday to Friday
- Weekends as needed
Experience:
- Aquatics Instructor: 2 years (Required)
License/Certification:
- CPR Certification (Required)
