WHAT YOU WILL DO:

The Unaccompanied Children Clinician is an exempt position responsible for conducting mental health assessments, providing ongoing individual and group counseling services, screening for human trafficking concerns, and providing crisis intervention services for Unaccompanied Children (UC) shelter clients.

  • Provide clinical services for the UC Program, including individual assessments, individual counseling, group counseling, and family sessions
  • Conduct initial risk assessments and screen each new child for Human Trafficking
  • Determine the child’s psychiatric diagnosis based on diagnostic criteria from the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders, Fifth Edition (DSM-5)
  • Conduct weekly individual and group counselling sessions
  • Complete treatment plan when applicable (client is admitted more than 30 days)
  • Participate in weekly case coordination meetings with the funder
  • Provide direct services to children to ensure a staff/client ratio is maintained in accordance with the Office of Refugee Resettlement (ORR) Policy
  • Ensure concise and timely completion of all documentation in the UC Portal within 48 hours of the occurrence of the event documentation
  • Complete the Significant Incident Report in the UC Portal immediately after being notified of the occurrence
  • Respond to on-call, emergencies, and provide crisis intervention when presented with a child crisis during intake assessment
  • Transporting of UC clients to their appointments
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

WHAT YOU WILL NEED:

  • Must have a Master’s Degree in Social Work with clinical experience in the program, or a Master’s Degree in Psychology, Mental Health, or other relevant behavioral science in which direct clinical experience is a program requirement.
    • Must be licensed or eligible for licensure; State of Florida License in the discipline of Mental Health Counseling, Marriage and Family Therapy, Clinical Social Work, and/or Psychology.
  • Knowledge of community organization and resources
  • Effective oral and written communication skills in a therapeutic environment
  • Ability to form alliances with community organizations/referral sources
  • Ability to perform individual and family assessments independently
  • Skilled in cross-cultural or multicultural environments.
  • Must be Bilingual: English and Spanish or English and Haitian Creole/French, highly recommended to meet the language demands for most clients
  • Potential exposure to a stressful environment involving difficult client situations, including clients who may be verbally and/or physically aggressive
  • Potential exposure to communicable diseases
  • Must provide evidence of immunization for: Varicella (2 doses), MMR (2 doses), Influenza (1 dose yearly), and Tdap (1 dose).
  • Must have a valid driver's license with auto insurance coverage.
