General Job Description

The Employment Specialist works directly with Clubhouse members and the business community to support participant/members with job placement, training, and on-going coaching. This position involves working with participant/members to build employment skills, including writing resumes and cover letters, completing applications, and training on effective interview skills. They work directly with participant/members and employers to reach the ultimate goal of securing and maintaining employment. This position will also provide support for other unit tasks and activities at the Clubhouse, as needed.

Qualifications

Required Education:

  • A Bachelor’s degree is strongly preferred with a focus on marketing, business administration, or human resource development, with some experience/knowledge of mental health field – or – a degree in a mental health-related field.

Other

  • Over the age of twenty-one.
  • Two to four years’ experience in job seeking, skills instruction, job placement and job development, preferred.
  • Experience working with adults with a mental health diagnosis, preferred.
  • Composition skills sufficient to prepare required reports.
  • Communication skills sufficient to interact professionally with members, employers, and public.
  • Driving record must meet safe driving standards as established by Agency insurance carrier.
  • Valid Michigan driver’s license.

Duties And Responsibilities

  • Assess member employment skills and interests, transportation needs, income requirements, and hours desired to match members with suitable employment.
  • Use placement and development techniques to develop sites for Transitional, Supported, and Independent Employment.
  • Develop and maintain professional, cooperative, outcome-oriented relationships with members, staff, outside professionals, and employers.
  • Assist business unit coordinator in supporting members to develop effective job seeking skills; including completing applications, writing resumes, practicing job interviewing techniques, job retention skills, and other related skills.
  • Assist business unit coordinator in providing training, follow-along support and coverage at Transitional work sites, advocacy and referral services for members.
  • Provide mobility training, research transportation options, and at times provide transportation using agency vehicle, or occasionally own vehicle, as needed.

GENERAL DUTIES Of All Clubhouse-associated Staff

  • Promote a supportive, positive, inclusive, stigma-free, work-ordered environment for all Clubhouse members.
  • Learn and support roles of the various Clubhouse units and provide coverage for other Clubhouse staff as needed.
  • Be available to work occasionally on a pre-scheduled holiday, evening, or weekend day to attend special events that support member services.
  • Be available to attend trainings, which may include out of state travel, and to develop/document related progress as required by the agency, funding source, and/or accrediting bodies.
  • Work with social, civic, and local organizations to develop partnerships that utilize member volunteers both in the community and for projects on site at the Clubhouse.
  • Support the educational development of members by seeking, providing and encouraging the use of community resources.
  • Work with members and staff to plan, prepare and serve meals, stock, organize and maintain the kitchen, and coordinate member participation.
  • Coordinate with members on gardening and hydroponic projects.
  • Promote wellness and fitness for the physical and emotional health of members by offering related activities, meals, etc.
  • Learn and support new Clubhouse Units as the Clubhouse grows.
  • Provide timely notes for billing, correspondence, attendance data, receipts, and all other administrative tasks necessary for the efficient functioning of the clubhouse.
  • Identify each member’s barriers and help the member overcome barriers; set up long- term SMART goals for members and monitor progress.
  • Collect, enter and assist in interpreting data relative to member utilization of the various units.
  • Participate in quality control and quality assurance activities completing all paperwork/progress notes pertinent to clubhouse operations and its accreditation.
  • Maintain quality and integrity of services for members.
  • Completion of PSR/Clubhouse Assessment and development of goals within 14 days of referral.
  • All Gesher employees are required to always conduct themselves in a professional manner and comply with the standards set forth in the Employee Handbook.
  • Staff members are expected to support the mission of Gesher in all activities and act as ambassadors.
  • Performs job duties and responsibilities in accordance with applicable Health and Safety policies and procedures.
  • All other duties as assigned by the Clubhouse Director that contribute to the advancement of Gesher as a premier provider of services for people with disabilities.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Environmental Conditions

  • Moderate noise (i.e., business office with computers, phone, and printers, light traffic).
  • Ability to work in a confined area.
  • Ability to sit at a computer terminal for an extended period.

Physical Requirements

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to, stand, sit; talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone keyboard, reach, stoop, kneel to install computer equipment.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision requirements due to computer work.
  • Light to moderate lifting in required.
