GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION

The Personal Care Attendant supports individuals with disabilities by assisting with essential daily needs such as mobility, hygiene, meals, and restroom use, creating a strong foundation for full participation in residential, community and program activities. This role focuses on ensuring comfort, safety, and dignity while helping participants maintain routines that support independence and engagement. PCAs play a vital role in enabling access—quietly doing the critical work that allows individuals to take part in meaningful experiences throughout their day.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education:

High School diploma or equivalency required, two-years of college preferred

Other:

  • 18+ years of age.
  • Criminal background must meet funding source requirements.
  • Reliable transportation
  • Complete all assigned trainings including but not limited to CPR, First Aid and Recipient Rights.
  • Strong interpersonal skills to communicate clearly and professionally with participants and staff.
  • Composition skills sufficient to prepare required documentation.
  • Fluency in American Sign Language is a plus.
  • Basic computer skills

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Supervise activities that promote a healthy, active and socially integrated lifestyle for the people with disabilities at home, facility/recreation settings, and job/volunteer sites.
  • Assist participants with personal care, hygiene and grooming including physical assistance in transferring and mobility.
  • Provide support and training based on goals in service plans.
  • Supervise and maintain the safety of participants.
  • Transport participants in agency or own vehicle as assigned.
  • Complete required trainings, daily reports and respond to email using Agency computers.
  • All other duties as assigned.
  • Serve on Agency committee(s) as appointed.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Environmental conditions:

  • Moderate noise (i.e., business office with computers, phone, and printers, light traffic).
  • Ability to work in a confined area.
  • Ability to sit at a computer terminal for an extended period.

Physical requirements:

  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to, stand, sit; talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer and telephone keyboard, reach, stoop, kneel to install computer equipment.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision requirements due to computer work.
  • Light to moderate lifting in required.
