Special Education Professional Development Coach (Early Learning)
Position Summary:
As Gateways continues to grow and expand our offerings both within the greater Boston area and beyond, the Early Learning Special Education PD Coach will work to provide expertise to Jewish early learning centers in the areas of child development and inclusive practices. Gateways’ coaches each work to provide customized support, professional development and guidance as requested by our partner schools. This position reports to the Director of Professional Learning and Consultation.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop curriculum.
- Provide professional development to educators.
- Coach directors, developmental specialists, and/or teachers.
- Observe preschool settings and provide consultation services.
- Respond in a timely fashion to emails and phone calls with the Director of Professional Development and Consultation.
- Be responsive and communicate efficiently with early learning center directors.
- Provide notes and other relevant information from coaching, PD sessions and peer reflection sessions to the Director of Professional Development and Consultation.
- Other duties as contracted.
Qualifications:
- Experience in early childhood and special education required
- BA/BS degree in early childhood and special education or a related field
- MA/MS or equivalent experience in early childhood and special education or a related field
- Experience in Jewish education preferred
- Knowledge of Jewish holidays, customs, and traditions preferred
- Experience teaching and/or coaching adults
- Experience in the development of curricula or workshops aimed at adults
Compensation:
This is a contract position. Early Learning Special Education PD Coach will be hired on an as-needed basis for projects and professional development opportunities.

Jewish Special Education Teacher
Position Summary:
This a part-time Sunday Jewish Education Program position responsible for leading a classroom of students in Jewish educational activities. Students in the Sunday program range in age from 5 to 18 and have a variety of special educational needs. The classroom teachers are encouraged to be creative, dynamic, and innovative in designing lesson plans to meet this wide range of needs. This position reports to the Senior Director of Programs. The first session meets from 9:15am-11:45pm on Sundays during the school year excluding Jewish holidays and public school vacations.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Develop or adapt curriculum and teach class(es) on Sunday
- Assume primary responsibility for teaching class(es) and provide mentoring and feedback to one-to-one teen volunteers (classroom aides)
- Prepare and submit weekly lesson plans and supplementary materials, based on existing curricular resources, including plans for individual accommodations and modifications
- Prepare a weekly communication letter to parents including curriculum and activities for the week
- Meet regularly with Program Director and/or other education staff (e.g. other teachers) to review past classes and plan upcoming units and lessons
Monitor Student Progress
- Review students’ forms, reports and school IEPs
- Meet with volunteer(s) (one-to-one aides) to review each child’s needs and goals at the beginning of the year and additional times as needed
- Document weekly student progress and participation using data collection, photographs, anecdotes, etc.
- Write end-of-year progress report for each child
Other
- Be on site at the Sunday program by 30 minutes prior to first scheduled session on class days
- Participate in scheduled sessions (9:15am-11:45am)
- Classroom clean-up at the end of the sessions
- Participate in mandatory program staff meetings and volunteer trainings at beginning of year, and as scheduled throughout the year (calendar provided in advance of each school year)
- Perform other duties as requested by the Program Director
Qualifications:
- BA/BS in special education or related field
- Experience working with students with disabilities required
- Knowledge of Jewish holidays, customs, and traditions required; ability to read Hebrew preferred but not required
- Enjoy working with children
Compensation:
$150-$225 per session commensurate with education and experience.
