Job Description

The Group Exercise Instructor (GXI) leads engaging and effective fitness classes, demonstrating proper exercise techniques while motivating participants of all fitness levels. GXIs provide modifications to accommodate different abilities and create a welcoming environment. Success in this role requires strong skills in engagement, class management, and punctuality.

The Evelyn Rubenstein JCC is hiring instructors in the following formats:

4. Les Mills BodyCombat

Key Responsibilities

Class Instruction and Safety

  • Lead group exercise classes as scheduled, ensuring a high-energy and inclusive environment.
  • Plan and instruct classes following JCC guidelines and industry best practices.
  • Provide modifications and alternatives for varying fitness levels.
  • Monitor participants to ensure safety and respond appropriately to incidents or injuries.
  • Set up and put away equipment before and after class.
  • Ensure equipment and facilities remain in good condition; report issues promptly.
  • Maintain active group fitness certifications and stay updated on industry trends.
  • Follow guidelines for group exercise program, detailed by management when hired

Communication & Teamwork

  • Maintain regular communication with the supervisor regarding scheduling, attendance, and updates on certification status.
  • Respond promptly to emails, texts, and calls from supervisor and other Fitness Team members regarding schedule, attendance, changes and general work in Fitness Center.
  • Follow JCC’s procedures for reporting planned absences including securing substitute instructors when needed.

AGENCY EXPECTATIONS

1. Attend quarterly instructor staff meetings and/or trainings as needed.

2. Participate in agency-wide in-service training programs as needed.

3. Participate in agency-wide Open House/Program Registration days as needed.

Qualifications

1. Current Primary Group Fitness Certification (ACE, AFAA, NASM) or a specialty certification from an accredited institution.

2. Current CPR, First Aid and AED certification.

3. At least one year experience of experience or related experience.

4. High school diploma or equivalent.

5. Minimum age of 18 years old.

6. Excellent communication skills with the ability to interact professionally with members and colleagues.

7. Deadline/Task orientated-sense of urgency.

9. Highly punctual and dependable; committed to starting and ending classes on time.

10. High energy, proactive, requiring little direction, takes responsibility.

11. Team oriented.

12. Willingness to be flexible and available to work shift changes as needed.

13. Willingness to perform job tasks not part of immediate job responsibilities but aides in member satisfaction and getting the job done.
