Job Description
Job Summary
J Camps Junior Counselors are entering their junior or senior in high school. Junior Counselors will support the senior counselors and the camp director by providing a safe and fun environment for the kids in camp. In addition, junior counselors will swim daily, bring a spirited and upbeat attitude, and help provide an awesome summer for kids in camp.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES
- Assist Camp Program leaders and Senior Counselors with all aspects of the campers’ day (i.e. activities, swimming, lunch, clean-up and carpool)
- Learn the names of all campers in their group
- Follow a daily schedule and participate in activities with campers
- Learn, understand, and lead campers through emergency procedures
- Know and follow all safety guidelines to ensure camper safety during planned activities
- Organize and guide campers in successful participation of all camp activities
- Accept work direction from Senior Counselor, Camp Program leaders, specialists, and Camp Director
- Be an incredible role model
- Follow camp policies and procedures and communicate and report regularly to Camp Director regarding challenges, updates and concerns
- Identify and respond to camper behavior issues
- Interact with parents in a professional, courteous manner
- Actively participate in staff training and meetings
- Duties and responsibilities of camp counselors vary differently depending on various factors. Some of those factors are:
- Age group of children
- Theme of camps
- Location of camp
- Size of camp
These are not the only duties to be performed. Some duties may be assigned as required.
Qualifications
- Must be at least a junior in High School Fall 2025
- Must attend Staff Training
- Must like children and have experience working with them
- Ability to take direction, complete assigned tasks and lead program activities.
- Energetic and enthusiastic
- Team Player
- Organized and self-motivated
- Willingness to be flexible and available to work occasional evenings and weekends as required.
- Willingness to perform job tasks not part of immediate job responsibilities
- Must be able to lift 25lbs and stand for extended periods of time.
- Upon hire, complete First Aid and CPR Certification (or re-certification expired)
- Must be fully vaccinated.
