Description

The Family Engagement Program Coordinator primary responsibility is to provide ongoing, innovative opportunities to foster family connections enhance community ties and incorporate Jewish values through programs. Events are offered year-round and are targeting families with infants, toddlers, preschoolers, and elementary age children, with a Family Engagement committee to provide guidance and support throughout the year. The Family Engagement Program Coordinator is also responsible for managing and maintaining the playscape by providing mid-day and afternoon daily supervision and coverage (M-F, 3:30-5pm), along with creating and implementing Jewish family learning experiences and opportunities for the playscape.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  1. Organize and staff innovative family engagement programs targeting families with infants, toddlers, preschoolers, and elementary age children. Programs will be at the J and held out in the community. Programs include but are not limited to Shabbat, Jewish Holidays, Supervising Playscape at the J, Schools Out, Help Out—Repair the World, intergenerational programs, and family outings.
  2. Engage parents in social and learning opportunities.
  3. Create, organize, and lead, experiences throughout the year in the J playscape: responsible for ensuring playscape is organized, provide coverage from 3:30-5pm) in the playscape during the week, and ensure Sunday playscape staff are scheduled and secured for their shifts, as well as administer payroll for Sunday staffing.
  4. Organize and manage the annual community-wide Yom Ha’atzmaut (Israel Independence Day) celebration in collaboration with other local Jewish agencies and community shlichim (ambassadors from Israel).
  5. Oversee the planning and execution of Oliver Lapin Family Day. Provide the staff leadership for the Oliver Lapin Family Day committee.
  6. In partnership with the Director of Arts & Culture, assist with the planning of the Family Performing Arts Series.
  7. Design and implement with the camp team Jewish curricula for the Bami and Kinder summer camp programs.
  8. Work closely with the Director of Bertha Alyce to provide targeted opportunities to strengthen the connection with pre-k families to the J.
  9. Establish a relationship with PJ Library Houston and work with their team to partner on programs in the community.
  10. Assist Chief of Jewish Education with Samuels Family Community Pavilion Lobby engagement programs

Qualifications

  1. Bachelor’s degree required
  2. Master’s preferred, ideally in the field of education, Jewish studies, communal service, social work or a field of similar study
  3. Needs to be a dynamic individual who can help develop and lead programming focused on families with infants, toddlers, preschooler, and elementary age children.
  4. Ability to work nights and weekends.
  5. Creative self-starter with the ability to work both independently and as part of team.
