Description

Responsible for planning and coordinating all aspects of environmental services i.e. housekeeping and laundry departments operations to provide optimal quality and maintain compliance with fiscal and regulatory agencies' guidelines.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

Plans, develops, controls and evaluates the housekeeping and laundry systems at the Jewish Home.

Manages and controls departmental resources keeping within budget guidelines.

Orders departmental supplies keeping with established Jewish home purchasing and receiving policies.

Establishes and maintains policy standards of cleanliness, service, sanitation/infection control, safety and security.

Plans and conducts orientation and staff educational programs.

Completes required documentation to maintain housekeeping and laundry systems.

Evaluates procures and maintains furniture for all areas of the facility

Evaluates, procures and maintains all furnishings including by not limited to; window dressings, cubicle curtains, artwork, lamps, and all other facility owned decorative items.

Participates in the Quality Assurance Program and manages housekeeping and laundry departmental QA plans.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Manages a total of 15-20 employees in the Environmental Service Department. Is responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of this unit, including the supervisory staff.

Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Qualifications

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

Three to five years’ experience in managing institutional/health care, environmental services/ housekeeping/laundry operations.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports in medical records and business correspondence. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, residents, family staff, and the public.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret mathematical data is needed in the routine management of the department.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions.

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:

I must be able to function independently.
