Senior Director of Development

This is a pivotal opportunity for an experienced development leader to architect and scale a high-impact fundraising function within a mission-driven nonprofit. The Senior Director of Development will partner directly with the Founder & CEO to convert strong institutional credibility and established relationships into sustained, measurable revenue growth. Blending strategy with hands-on execution, this role is designed for a leader who thrives in entrepreneurial environments and is motivated by expanding access, voice, and opportunity for the next generation in their relationship with technology.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Revenue Leadership
- Design and execute a comprehensive development strategy to support ambitious organizational growth targets.
- Convert warm introductions, existing donor relationships, and emerging opportunities into multi-year commitments and diversified revenue streams.
- Build repeatable, scalable fundraising systems that strengthen long-term financial sustainability.
Major Gifts & Institutional Relationships
- Cultivate, solicit, and steward individual donors, foundations, and institutional funders.
- Develop tailored engagement strategies that prioritize authenticity, long-term trust, and mission alignment.
- Partner with executive leadership and the Board to maximize strategic introductions and deepen funder engagement.
Grants Lifecycle Management
- Oversee the full grants process in partnership with an internal grant writer, including proposal development, submission, reporting, and compliance.
- Ensure all deliverables meet funder requirements and deadlines.
- Implement process improvements to enhance efficiency, transparency, and scalability in grants management.
Development Operations & Infrastructure
- Establish clear systems, metrics, and reporting structures to track fundraising performance and pipeline health.
- Translate donor conversations into actionable next steps across teams.
- Strengthen internal coordination between development, programs, communications, and operations.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Align fundraising strategy with programmatic impact and growth priorities.
- Support storytelling efforts that elevate youth voice and demonstrate measurable outcomes.
- Contribute to a culture of shared accountability and continuous improvement.
Qualifications & Experience
Required:
- 7+ years of progressive leadership experience in development, philanthropy, donor advising, or foundation relations.
- Demonstrated success managing individual major donors and institutional funders.
- Comprehensive understanding of the grants lifecycle, including compliance and reporting requirements.
- Experience building or refining fundraising systems in high-growth or entrepreneurial environments.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent professional experience.
Preferred:
- Experience in education, youth development, mental health, STEAM, or innovation-focused organizations.
- Background within donor-advised fund networks or philanthropic advisory ecosystems.
- Prior experience in founder-led or startup-style nonprofit organizations.
- Advanced degree in nonprofit management, public policy, business, or a related field.
