Founded in 1976, DOROT (“generations” in Hebrew) facilitates a dynamic partnership between older adults, volunteers, and professionals through programs designed to combat social isolation and loneliness and bring the generations together. DOROT is dedicated to enhancing the lives of older adults in the Jewish and wider community to help them live more independently as valued community members. Compassion and a commitment to excellence are hallmarks of DOROT’s programs and staff. The agency is a recognized innovative leader in mobilizing volunteers and infusing social work into its service delivery model. Our vast offerings of programs are conducted onsite, in the home, remotely and in the community.
DOROT serves clients on the Upper West Side from 59th to 125th Street, and on the East Side from 14th to 96th Street. DOROT also has a variety of services for older adults in Westchester County

Bring birthday and holiday cheer to DOROT seniors with a handmade greeting card!
DOROT has a great need for birthday cards which we send to 3,000+ older adults each year.
Making a card is an easy, fun and important way to contribute to the work that DOROT does to decrease social isolation among seniors. Sometimes, a card from a DOROT volunteer is the only communication an older adult receives to acknowledge their special day. We also welcome cards for Thanksgiving, Rosh Hashanah and Passover holidays as well as Caring Cards which we can use on a variety of occasions.
Whether you’re looking for something to do on a rainy day at home with your family or planning an activity for your school, community or corporate group, making a card is a great way to help brighten someone’s day and is a fantastic group volunteer opportunity!
All cards should be returned to DOROT with a completed Cardmaking Project Form. Please use this link to complete the Cardmaking Project Form.
We also recommend that you look at the guidelines on our website to get card design tips and information on the types of supplies you will need. Please use this link for recommendations on how to make a wonderful card!
Please note - This is an opportunity that takes place in your own home, organization, or work place. It does not take place at DOROT's offices. However, we do occasionally offer group programs at DOROT that include the card making project. For more information, contact us at volunteers@dorotusa.org.
