Position Description

The Tax Department provides tax consulting and planning services related to the family’s diversified holdings including investments in privately held operating companies, real estate, investment funds, and publicly traded securities. This department is seeking a Senior Tax Advisor who would report directly to a Tax Director.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct tax research, planning, complex excel analysis for major transactions including new entity formation, ownership change transactions (recapitalizations, redemptions, etc.), acquisitions and dispositions
  • Serve as a resource of technical knowledge for internal tax return preparers and to other departments requesting assistance on tax and business matters
  • Analyze the impact of tax legislation and communicate the potential impact to company management and family members
  • Conduct tax research and prepare technical tax memorandums to determine and document tax return filing positions
  • Ensure the proper implementation of conclusions reached during tax planning
  • Review of operating and trust agreements
  • Interact with outside professional advisors
  • Represent taxpayers in IRS examinations


Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or related field; MST or advanced degree, or desire to pursue such degree
  • CPA license
  • At least ten years of professional experience with a public accounting firm, privately held company, or family office
  • Well-organized, ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment while working on a broad range of tax matters
  • Self-motivated, desire and capacity to learn new and complex areas of taxation
  • Excellent research, written and oral communication, problem solving and analytical skills
  • Ability to communicate technical information in a non-technical manner
  • Strong knowledge of online tax research tools (RIA Checkpoint, BNA Portfolios, etc.) and Microsoft Office products


Preferred Experience

Real Estate and Holding Companies

  • Experience with complex tax issues of pass-through entities, especially tiered partnership structures and holding companies
