Position Summary
The Pickleball Director is responsible for the overall leadership, growth, and daily operation of the pickleball department. This position oversees instructional programming, leagues, tournaments, court utilization, staffing, customer experience, and financial performance. The Director is expected to develop a thriving pickleball community while driving revenue growth and maintaining exceptional program quality.
The ideal candidate is an energetic leader who combines strong business acumen with outstanding coaching and customer service skills.
Primary Responsibilities
Program Development & Operations
● Develop and manage all pickleball instructional programs for juniors, adults, beginners, intermediate, and advanced players.
● Design seasonal programming that maximizes court utilization and profitability.
● Evaluate program performance using enrollment, retention, participation, and revenue metrics.
● Continually improve curriculum and player development pathways.
● Ensure all programs are organized, well staffed, and professionally delivered.
Revenue Growth
● Meet or exceed annual revenue and participation goals.
● Increase instructional enrollment through new programming and member engagement.
● Grow private lessons, clinics, leagues, tournaments, camps, and special events.
● Identify new revenue opportunities including corporate events, mixers, social play, and sponsorships.
● Monitor instructor payroll to maintain profitable programming.
Staff Leadership
● Recruit, hire, train, mentor, schedule, and evaluate pickleball instructors.
● Conduct regular staff meetings and professional development.
● Observe instructors and provide ongoing coaching and performance feedback.
● Ensure instructors maintain high standards of professionalism, energy, punctuality, and customer engagement.
● Build a positive, collaborative team culture.
Customer Experience
● Create an inclusive and welcoming environment for players of all skill levels.
● Build strong relationships with members and participants.
● Address customer concerns promptly and professionally.
● Foster a vibrant pickleball community that encourages long-term retention.
Events & Community Engagement
● Organize leagues, ladders, DUPR events, tournaments, round robins, and social events.
● Coordinate special events with marketing and operations staff.
● Represent Commonpoint at community events and pickleball outreach initiatives.
Facility Operations
● Oversee daily court schedules and programming.
● Coordinate court allocations with operations staff.
● Monitor equipment inventory and maintenance needs.
● Ensure courts remain safe, organized, and professionally presented.
Administration
● Maintain accurate schedules, registrations, instructor assignments, and attendance records.
● Prepare reports on participation, revenue, instructor payroll, and program performance.
● Assist with budgeting and forecasting.
● Collaborate with marketing to promote programs and events.
Qualifications
● Strong knowledge of pickleball instruction and player development.
● Previous experience managing instructional programs or racquet sports operations.
● Excellent leadership and team management skills.
● Strong organizational and administrative abilities.
● Exceptional communication and customer service skills.
● Comfortable using registration and scheduling software.
● Ability to work evenings, weekends, and special events as needed.
Preferred:
● Certified pickleball instructor (PPR, PCI, IPTPA, or equivalent)
● Tournament Director experience
● DUPR knowledge
● Experience growing instructional revenue
