STATEMENT OF THE AGENCY
Commonpoint is a non-profit, multi-service agency with flagship sites in Little Neck, Bayside, Forest Hills, East Elmhurst, Jamaica, and the Bronx, with 80 additional sites throughout the community that provides a diverse array of programs and services to over 85,000 individuals. STATEMENT OF THE POSITION
Within the framework of a holistic, strength-based, and family-supported framework, the Summer College and Career Intensive (SCCI) Program provides participants with a structured paid employment and academic enrichment experience.
Participants are placed in supervised youth development or childcare-related work sites while concurrently enrolled in a CUNY youth development college-level course. The program integrates hands-on work experience, academic instruction, and professional training to support workforce readiness and early career exploration in education and human services fields.
Participants report to designated site supervisors and Commonpoint program staff and are expected to adhere to all program guidelines, worksite expectations, and academic requirements throughout the duration of the program.
Education & Qualifications
● High School Graduate
● Enrolling in a CUNY School in Fall 2026
● Must meet program eligibility requirements and complete all required onboarding documentation
● Valid work authorization required, as applicable by law
● Interest in youth development, education, childcare, or related fields preferred
● Ability to commit to a structured work and academic schedule
● Strong interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills
● Ability to work in a structured, supervised environment
● Commitment to professionalism, punctuality, and program expectations
Responsibilities
● Perform assigned duties within a supervised youth development or childcare-related work placement
● Complete approximately 15 hours per week of work-based responsibilities
● Attend and actively participate in a CUNY youth development college-level course (approximately 5 hours per week)
● Maintain consistent attendance for all assigned work shifts, classes, and trainings
● Complete all required onboarding, compliance training, including CPR/AED, and certification requirements
● Submit accurate and timely timesheets and required documentation
● Maintain professional conduct in all worksite, academic, and program settings
● Communicate promptly with program staff regarding attendance, performance, or scheduling concerns
● Comply with all program policies, procedures, and workplace standards
● Other duties assigned by supervisor
General Tasks of All Commonpoint Queens Staff
● Promote and implement the Core Values of the Jewish Community Center.
● Participation in all staff meetings and staff training seminars.
● Participation in agency-wide programs and program committees, as assigned.
● Active involvement, as a supervisee, in the supervision process.
● Support the mission of Commonpoint Queens.
● Other tasks appropriate to Commonpoint staff, as assigned.
Pay: $17 per hour
Commonpoint Queens reserves the right to revise or change job duties and responsibilities as the need arises.
