ABOUT THE ROLE

To continue advancing the impact we have across the communities we serve, Commonpoint is hiring a Seasonal Pool Manager situated within the Pool Clubs.

Across the agency, our seasonal and part-time staff play a crucial role in driving our initiatives forward by supporting daily operations, program delivery, and organizational goals.

Agency Expectations:

  • Support agency initiatives by carrying out assigned duties accurately and efficiently, while following established processes and contributing to basic data collection, reporting, or documentation as required.

  • Use agency resources responsibly by following established procedures, safeguarding equipment and materials, and/or supporting cost-effective operations.

  • Work effectively with supervisors, coworkers, and cross-department teams to ensure clear communication, timely task completion, and a positive, respectful work environment.

  • Follow all safety protocols, policies, and procedures to maintain a safe work environment for staff, partners, and the public, and promptly report concerns or incidents.

Role Expectations:

  • Maintain a safe, welcoming, and enjoyable environment for all members, guests, and staff at all times.

  • Support membership growth and community engagement through strong service, programming, and outreach efforts.

  • Assist in driving revenue growth through effective programming, operations, and member experience

  • Ensure smooth, efficient daily operations of the Pool Club across all departments.

  • Plan, direct, and supervise all aspects of pool club operations, ensuring alignment with organizational goals.

  • Provide oversight of staff, members, and guests, maintaining a safe, positive, and well-managed environment.

  • Collaborate with the BTC Senior Director to develop and implement operational and growth strategies.

  • Manage daily administration, including staffing, scheduling, and support of budget oversight.

  • Recruit, hire, train, and supervise seasonal staff, including lifeguards, head guards, gate staff, office staff, and maintenance teams.

  • Conduct and oversee pre-season, post-season, and in-service trainings to ensure staff preparedness and compliance.

  • Develop and implement staff schedules, operational routines, and standard procedures.

  • Supervise, support, and evaluate all program and operations staff, ensuring accountability and performance standards are met.

  • Maintain accurate records and documentation related to staff, programs, and facility operations

  • Support efforts to increase membership, including outreach, retention strategies, and community engagement.

  • Coordinate, manage, and monitor vendor relationships and contracts, ensuring compliance with all agreements.

  • Oversee the ordering, inventory, and distribution of supplies and equipment.

  • Implement and enforce emergency action plans, crisis management protocols, and safety procedures.

  • Ensure full compliance with NYC Department of Health regulations and all applicable safety standards.

  • Maintain overall facility cleanliness and organization, working closely with maintenance staff.

  • Maintain working knowledge of pool operations, including water chemistry, backwashing, chlorination, vacuuming, and general upkeep.

  • Oversee external vendors and contractors, ensuring work is completed according to agreed terms and standards.

  • Foster a positive, professional environment that promotes strong staff morale and excellent member experiences.

  • Demonstrate leadership, accountability, and professionalism in all aspects of the role.

  • Adapt to changing operational needs, taking on additional responsibilities as required.

  • Position requires flexibility to work various days and hours, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, based on operational demands.

QUALIFICATIONS & KEY ATTRIBUTES:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be at least 21 years of age

  • Minimum 3–5 years of experience in aquatics, recreation, or facility operations, with demonstrated leadership responsibility.

  • Proven experience in staff supervision, scheduling, and team management.

  • Strong knowledge of pool operations, including water chemistry, maintenance processes, and safety protocols.

  • Familiarity with NYC Department of Health regulations and aquatic safety standards (or ability to quickly learn and apply)

  • Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification required (Lifeguard certification preferred)

  • Strong organizational, administrative, and problem-solving skills.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, high-demand environment.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage members, staff, and vendors professionally.

  • Experience with budget support, inventory management, and vendor coordination preferred.

  • Proficiency in basic computer systems (email, spreadsheets, CRM systems such as Salesforce a plus)

  • Must be reliable, detail-oriented, and able to exercise sound judgment.

  • Ability to enforce policies while maintaining a positive member experience.

  • Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays.

WORKING CONDITIONS & JOB DETAILS

Consider the following:

  • Position is seasonal, typically running May through September, with pre-season planning and post-season wrap-up responsibilities.

  • Work is performed in a combination of outdoor pool environment and office setting, with exposure to sun, heat, humidity, and varying weather conditions.

  • Requires ability to stand, walk, and remain active for extended periods, while also performing administrative tasks.

  • Must be comfortable working in and around water, including occasional hands-on support of aquatics operations.

  • Involves physical activity, including lifting supplies, equipment, and assisting with facility setup and maintenance as needed.

  • Physical Effort/Lifting: Sedentary to up to 20 pounds; medium lifting may be required up to 50 pounds on occasion.

  • Responsible for overseeing daily operations across multiple departments, requiring constant awareness and multitasking.

  • Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays during the pool season.

  • Requires attendance at all mandatory meetings, trainings, and leadership check-ins.

  • Frequent interaction with members, guests, staff, and vendors, requiring strong customer service and conflict resolution skills.

  • Expected to maintain a high level of visibility, professionalism, and leadership presence at all times.

  • Role requires real-time decision-making, including handling emergencies, staffing challenges, and operational issues.

  • Must ensure compliance with all safety regulations and organizational policies.

  • Work environment is fast-paced, high-volume, and service-driven, especially during peak summer operations.
