ABOUT THE ROLE

To continue advancing the impact we have across the communities we serve, Commonpoint is hiring a Head Lifeguard situated within the Pool Clubs.

Across the agency, our seasonal and part-time staff play a crucial role in driving our initiatives forward by supporting daily operations, program delivery, and organizational goals.

ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES:

Agency Expectations:

  • Support agency initiatives by carrying out assigned duties accurately and efficiently, while following established processes and contributing to basic data collection, reporting, or documentation as required.

  • Use agency resources responsibly by following established procedures, safeguarding equipment and materials, and/or supporting cost-effective operations.

  • Work effectively with supervisors, coworkers, and cross-department teams to ensure clear communication, timely task completion, and a positive, respectful work environment.

  • Follow all safety protocols, policies, and procedures to maintain a safe work environment for staff, partners, and the public, and promptly report concerns or incidents.

Role Expectations:

  • Pool maintenance, including monitoring chemical levels, chlorine inventory, backwashing, and general cleanliness.

  • Planning and facilitating in-service training for lifeguard staff.

  • Monitor the pool deck and ensure proper coverage of the pool according to local ordinances at all times.

  • Enforce all rules and regulations of BTC throughout the facility.

  • Scheduling the Lifeguard Staff and ensuring that the pool is fully staffed and covered at all times.

  • Be a part of the lifeguard rotation when necessary, including throughout the month of June.

  • Frequently engage with members and customers to create lasting relationships.

QUALIFICATIONS & KEY ATTRIBUTES:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Have at least 3 years of lifeguarding experience, preferably at an outdoor aquatic facility.

  • Must be at least 18 years of age

  • Ability to monitor pool safety and enforce rules and regulations consistently and professionally.

  • Experience in pool operations, including basic knowledge of water chemistry, chemical handling, and general pool maintenance.

  • Ability to remain alert, attentive, and responsive in a fast-paced, high-risk environment.

  • Strong leadership and communication skills; able to direct staff and interact with members effectively.

  • Ability to create and manage staff schedules to ensure proper pool coverage at all times.

  • Willingness and ability to participate in lifeguard rotation as needed.

  • Must be reliable, punctual, and able to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays.

  • Ability to respond quickly and appropriately in emergency situations and follow established protocols.

  • Must attend all required meetings, trainings, and check-ins with Aquatics leadership.

Required Certifications:

● Current American Red Cross Lifeguarding Certification

● Current CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer Certification

WORKING CONDITIONS & JOB DETAILS:

Consider the following:

  • Position is seasonal, typically running May through September, with potential pre- and post-season responsibilities.

  • Work is performed primarily in an outdoor aquatic environment, with exposure to sun, heat, humidity, and varying weather conditions.

  • Requires ability to stand, walk, and remain highly alert for extended periods of time while monitoring the pool and surrounding areas.

  • Must be able to respond quickly in emergency situations, including entering the water and performing rescues when necessary.

  • Involves physical activity, including lifting equipment, assisting with pool maintenance tasks, and supporting daily operations.

  • Responsible for monitoring pool deck operations and ensuring proper lifeguard coverage in accordance with local regulations at all times.

  • Requires handling and awareness of pool chemicals and water quality maintenance procedures (training provided if needed).

  • Includes staff supervision responsibilities, such as scheduling, oversight, and facilitating in-service trainings.

  • Schedule includes early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays, based on operational needs.

  • Must attend all mandatory meetings, trainings, and weekly check-ins with Aquatics leadership.

  • Requires frequent interaction with members, guests, and staff, maintaining a high level of customer service and professionalism.

  • Must consistently enforce facility rules and safety protocols, including managing conflicts when necessary.

  • Expected to maintain a professional appearance and strong leadership presence at all times.

  • Role requires ability to multitask and make real-time decisions in a fast-paced, high-responsibility environment.

  • Ability to work a flexible schedule, including weekends and holidays during the pool season.

JOB DETAILS:

Location: Bay Terrace

Pool Club Dates: 5/15/2026-9/20/2026

Working schedule: 20hr - 35hrs per week
