Commonpoint is a non-profit, multi-service agency with flagship sites in Forest Hills and Little Neck, along with 33 additional sites throughout the community that provide a diverse array of programs and services to over 35,000. MINIMUM DESCRIPTION
Ladders for Leaders is a nationally recognized initiative that provides NYC youth (ages 16–24) with paid professional internships, paired with 20–30 hours of pre-employment training in workplace readiness, leadership development, and professional etiquette. Participants are placed in diverse industries and supported through career exploration, mentorship, and skill-building opportunities. The Part-Time Mock Interviewer will report to the Program Director and will play a crucial role in preparing youth participants (aged 16-24) for the workforce by conducting realistic and constructive mock interviews. This position is part of a dynamic team committed to empowering young individuals with the skills and confidence needed to succeed in the professional world.
RESPONSIBILITIES
● Organize and conduct simulated job interviews for youth participants following established guidelines.
● Provide constructive feedback on interview performance, highlighting strengths and suggesting areas for improvement.
● Develop and prepare interview questions tailored to various industries and job positions.
● Assess participants' soft skills, including communication, interpersonal skills, and professional demeanor.
● Offer guidance on effective body language, active listening, and appropriate responses during interviews
● Deliver personalized feedback to each participant, focusing on their unique strengths and areas for improvement
● Work closely with the program coordinator and other team members to align mock interviews with the overall goals of the summer youth employment program.
● Participate in team meetings to discuss best practices, share insights, and refine interview techniques
● Foster a safe and encouraging atmosphere during mock interviews, ensuring participants feel comfortable and motivated to learn.
● Offer guidance on stress management and effective strategies for handling interview pressure
● Maintain accurate records of each mock interview session, including participant feedback and progress
QUALIFICATIONS:
● High school diploma (or equivalent).
● Strong interest in working with high-achieving high school and college students.
● Experience in conducting job interviews and assessing candidates.
● Strong understanding of soft skills and professional etiquette.
● Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
● Ability to adapt interview techniques to various industries and job positions.
● Empathy and patience in working with young individuals seeking employment
● Able to multitask efficiently and effectively.
● Demonstrate cultural competency through familiarity in working with people from a very diverse number of backgrounds.
● Must have a strong belief that all students can learn and succeed.
● Wants to inspire and motivate youth to succeed and lead their best life.
