AGENCY DESCRIPTION
Commonpoint’s Youth Workforce Department includes multiple programs serving individuals primarily ages 14–24.The Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) provides New York City youth with summer employment and educational experiences that build on their strengths and support youth development.
ABOUT THE POSITION
The Part-Time Administrative Assistant will work in the SYEP program, located at John Bowne High School in Flushing and/or remotely.
This role reports to the SYEP Program Operations Coordinator.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The Administrative Assistant will:
- Provide administrative support, including organizing and maintaining documentation and digital records (including confidential materials)
- Prepare materials for meetings and conferences
- Draft routine correspondence
- Support office staff and visitors
- Communicate with student applicants and participants via phone and email
- Assist with data collection and tracking program outcomes
- Perform data entry and general clerical tasks
- Manage workflow to meet deadlines and ensure accuracy
- Generate memos, emails, and reports
- Maintain office equipment (computers, copiers, etc.)
- Respond to questions and information requests
- Order office supplies and research vendors
- Answer incoming calls and assist with receptionist duties
- Perform other tasks as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
- High school diploma or equivalent
- Current undergraduate or graduate students and recent graduates are encouraged to apply
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Google Workspace, and general internet use
- Excellent time management and ability to prioritize tasks
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
ADDITIONAL PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- 1–2 years of office experience
- Experience managing data and generating reports
- Familiarity with office operations, including equipment maintenance and vendor management
- Ability to remain composed under pressure and respond to feedback
- Ability to analyze and synthesize information
- Experience working with diverse populations
JOB DETAILS
- Schedule: Seasonal, Part-Time (up to ~25 hours per week)
- Salary: ~$15 per hour (approximate based on document formatting)
- Expected Start Date: January
- Modality: Hybrid (remote + in-person)
