Youth Volleyball Coach Job Description

Youth Sports Coaches are key members of the Health & Wellness team and will report to the Physical Education and Sports Activities Supervisor. The primary responsibilities include hands-on-coaching, lesson planning, and role modeling good sportsmanship for volleyball players 10-15 years old. Commonpoint’s Youth Sports Program consists of basketball, soccer, tennis, flag football and volleyball. Youth Sports Coaches ensure that fair play and the philosophy of the Youth Sports Programs is maintained.


RESPONSIBILITIES:
● Prepare and execute lessons for 1-1.5 hour classes according to the appropriate activity and age group.
● Properly progress participants throughout the season to improve skill development and abilities.
● Organize and lead a high-energy, structured class with consistent flow and engagement.
● Coordinate with other coaches to help sports classes maintain flow and organization.
● Individuals are expected to assist in assessing a player's skills and abilities to help create a balanced playing field.
● Encourage participation and sportsmanship for all participants in the program.
● Maintain supervision and care of each athlete under the care of the Youth Sports program.
● Represent Commonpoint in a positive light at all times.


SKILLS AND REQUIRED COMPETENCIES:
● Experience and ability to work with children with varying levels of skill and ability.
● Understanding of proper progression in regards to sport-specific skills.
● Time management and multitasking skills.
● Show initiative and be able to prioritize.
● Be responsible and trustworthy.
● Teach life skills and build character through sport.
● Communicate effectively with parents, players and supervisors.
● Manage cleanliness and safety of playing space.
● Assisting in equipment set-up and breakdown.
● Effective verbal, listening and written communication skills.
● Proactive work ethic and ability to perform with minimal supervision.
● Ideal candidate is a versatile individual capable of serving as a lead coach or assistant coach for any of the previously mentioned sports.


Main Working Location: Commonpoint’s Samuel Field Center (58-20 Little Neck Parkway, Little Neck, NY 11362)
Schedule: Saturdays 10:00am-12:00pm and potential school holiday clinics

Hourly Rate: $30.00/hour
