Position Summary:

Join Commonpoint’s Youth Opportunity Hub as a Film Team Member and help capture and share the stories of youth, community projects, and social issues through documentary filmmaking and social media content. This volunteer role offers hands-on experience in video production, storytelling, digital media, and youth mentorship.

You’ll work with a creative team to produce engaging films and social media posts that amplify youth voices while supporting fellow participants in building confidence and skills.

Duties and Responsibilities:

● Collaborate on planning, shooting, and editing short documentaries and video content

● Create engaging social media videos, reels, and graphics that highlight program activities and community stories

● Support youth volunteers by providing peer mentoring and guidance in media production skills

● Manage and update social media platforms with fresh, compelling content ● Assist in organizing film screenings, digital campaigns, and outreach events ● Maintain and care for film equipment and editing software

● Participate in team meetings, workshops, and skill-building sessions

● Promote a positive, inclusive, and supportive environment for all team members

Qualifications and Requirements:

● Interest in filmmaking, video editing, storytelling, and social media

● Comfortable working with digital cameras, smartphones, and editing tools (training available)

● Strong communication and teamwork skills

● Enthusiastic about mentoring peers and sharing knowledge

● Responsible, creative, and proactive

● Open to learning and collaborating in a youth-centered environment

● Exceptional Relationship Building: Build strong, trusting relationships with volunteers by being friendly, approachable, and engaging, creating a positive and inclusive environment for all program participants.

● Attention to Detail & Problem-Solving: Demonstrate a keen eye for detail and a proactive approach to problem-solving, ensuring that tasks are completed accurately and challenges are addressed effectively.

● Effective Time Management: Showcase excellent time management skills, balancing multiple tasks and prioritizing responsibilities to ensure smooth daily operations.

Schedule & Compensation:

● Up to 10 hours a week

● $16.50/hour

● Flexible scheduling may include after-school hours

Working Conditions

● Standing: Staff will be on their feet for extended periods (1-4 hours), especially during activities or supervision.

● Walking and Movement: Frequent movement around the program space is essential to effectively supervise students, guide activities, and provide support during homework, ensuring a dynamic and interactive atmosphere.

● Lifting: Staff may need to lift materials (up to 20 pounds), such as film equipment

● Occasionally, lifting heavier items (up to 50 pounds) may be necessary, though this is rare and can be managed with assistance.

● Minimal Travel: While travel is generally not required, staff may occasionally need to travel to different program locations within the local area, depending on departmental needs.
