The Charles E. Smith Jewish Day School in Rockville, MD is seeking candidates to fill the position of Middle and High School Spanish Teacher for the 2025-2026 school year.

The ideal candidate is a creative, charismatic educator with native or near-native Spanish proficiency, a proven record of enacting ACTFL standards in everyday instruction, strong background in second language acquisition, experience and/or training in curriculum development. They have experience with project based language learning and experiential education, and have demonstrated success at and enjoy collaborating as an active member of a team. Successful candidates possess strong interpersonal skills, have a strong record of positive behavior management, are comfortable with and skilled at working with a range of learners, and enjoy working with adolescents.

Pay is commensurate with education and experience, and is calculated according to a school-wide pay scale. This position is eligible for benefits.

Responsibilities:

  • Teaching 3 Spanish classes to middle school students in grades 6-8;
  • Teaching 3 Spanish classes to high school students in grades 9-12;
  • Participating in team meetings to review curriculum and discuss student progress;
  • Working collaboratively with the middle and high school faculty;
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of a BA in Spanish, Teaching or Education, or a related field is required. An MA degree is preferred.
  • Minimum three years of successful teaching experience working collaboratively at the middle and/or high school levels.
  • Experience in differentiated instruction, student-centered instruction and working with students with diverse learning needs is preferred. Fluency with technology required.
