The Program Director is responsible for the overall leadership, administration, compliance, and daily operations of the COMPASS NYC and School Age Child Care (SACC) program. This individual will ensure the delivery of a safe, engaging, developmentally appropriate, and high-quality afterschool program for children and families while maintaining full compliance with DYCD, OCFS, DOE, DOHMH, and all applicable city and state regulations.
The Program Director serves as the primary liaison between the organization, school administration, families, community partners, and regulatory agencies.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
Program Operations & Leadership
- Oversee daily operation of the afterschool program
- Ensure a safe, nurturing, and inclusive environment for all participants
- Develop and implement engaging youth development programming including academic support, STEM, arts, recreation, and enrichment activities
- Supervise program schedules, staffing coverage, and site logistics
- Ensure program meets all DYCD COMPASS and OCFS SACC performance standards
Compliance & Licensing
- Maintain compliance with:
- DYCD COMPASS requirements
- OCFS SACC regulations
- DOE school partnership requirements
- DOHMH health and safety standards
- FDNY safety regulations
- Maintain accurate attendance, incident, and compliance records
- Prepare for audits, site visits, and monitoring reviews
- Ensure all staff complete required trainings and certifications
Staff Supervision
- Recruit, hire, onboard, train, and supervise program staff
- Conduct staff evaluations and provide ongoing coaching
- Foster a positive and mission-driven team culture
- Ensure proper staff-to-child ratios are maintained at all times
Family & Community Engagement
- Build strong relationships with parents and guardians
- Coordinate family engagement activities and communication
- Serve as liaison with school principals, administrators, and community stakeholders
- Support participant recruitment and retention efforts
Administrative & Financial Oversight
- Assist with budget management and expense monitoring
- Maintain program documentation and reporting systems
- Submit required reports through DYCD Connect, FAMS, and other systems
- Track enrollment, attendance, and program outcomes
- Assist in ad hoc duties
Education:
- Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s degree preferred in Education, Social Work, Public Administration, Youth Development, or related field
Expericence:
- Minimum 3–5 years of supervisory experience in afterschool, youth development, or SACC programs
- Knowledge of DYCD COMPASS and OCFS SACC regulations strongly preferred
- Experience working with DOE schools and community-based programming
- Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills
- Experience with compliance systems and reporting platforms
- CPR/First Aid certification preferred
- Ability to work occasional evenings and special events
Professional Skills:
- Bilingual English/Yiddish preferred
- Experience managing government-funded programs, but will train the right candidate
- Strong conflict resolution and team management skills
- Budget and operational management experience
SCHEDULE:
- Full-time; Typical hours aligned with school and afterschool program operations
