Beth El Congregation of Pikesville, MD, is seeking a visionary, high-energy, and strategically minded Director of Adult Education to lead the Rabbi Mark G. Loeb Center for Lifelong Learning. This professional will oversee a mini-university environment that currently serves a large and dedicated constituency through classical text study, cultural programs, and social clubs. The goal for the incoming Director is to sustain the excellence of the current customer-driven curriculum while pioneering new, relational, and experiential models of engagement for preschool/religious school parents, Generation X, and Baby Boomers. Core ResponsibilitiesStewardship of the Loeb Center- Hire qualified teachers, oversee and enhance existing curriculum in Beginning Hebrew, Prayerbook Hebrew, Torah Study, Talmud, and The Prophets.- Explore forming classes around any subject that garners interest from a small cohort of congregants.- Provide our congregants and the community with musical concerts, monthly documentaries, special movies, and programs that are informative and enjoyable. Our new director will have the opportunity to continue these innovative cultural arts programs and introduce new programming that will enhance the lives of participants.- Facilitate programs that encourage social connectivity and communal bonding such as Canasta, Bridge, and other popular games.- Design, implement, and continuously enhance innovative programming and educational experiences that reflect evolving community needs, promote sustained engagement, and support recruitment and retention of participants. Qualifications and CompetenciesEducation and Experience- An MA or PhD in Jewish Education, Jewish Studies, Non-Profit Leadership, or a related field is highly preferred — or equivalent depth of knowledge and expertise gained through significant professional experience in the field.- Preferred at least 4-5 years of experience in an educational leadership role, with demonstrated success in next-generation engagement and innovative program design.- Deep fluency in Jewish text, tradition, and modern Israeli culture/politics. Core Competencies- A people-person who understands that the primary goals of adult education are engaging adults in learning and enabling them to build relationships.- Ability to embrace the agile framework, experimenting with small-scale pilots, deciding what works, and learning from what does not. Possess the ability to think out of the box.- Comfort with various teaching modalities, from classical lecture and Project-Based Learning to mindfulness and culinary workshops.- Experience with learning management systems (LMS), hybrid-meeting technology, digital tools, and social media for community engagement.- This position requires scheduling flexibility, including availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed. The Director’s active presence is critical to ensuring the successful implementation of programs and building strong, meaningful relationships throughout the congregation.
