The Café & Commissary Manager is responsible for the overall operation of the Brett & Alana Fine Café and its commissary kitchen. This position oversees daily café operations while managing the preparation and production of food for the café.

The manager leads a team of employees, ensures high standards of food quality and customer service, maintains inventory and purchasing, and helps develop an efficient food production system that supports the café’s growing food service needs.

The café operates Monday–Thursday from approximately 7:45 a.m.–4:45 p.m., and Fridays and pre-holidays from 7:45 a.m.–2:00 p.m., with occasional evening and weekend events during the school year. This is a full-time, 10-month position.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Oversee the daily operation of the Brett & Alana Fine Café and commissary kitchen.
  • Plan, organize, assign, and supervise the work of café and kitchen employees.
  • Develop production schedules for commissary-prepared foods to support the café, school events, catering, and other food service needs.
  • Ensure the café is fully staffed during peak service periods while balancing commissary production.
  • Serve as a hands-on working manager by regularly staffing the café counter, greeting customers, accepting and processing orders, preparing and fulfilling food and beverage orders, and providing outstanding customer service while overseeing daily operations.
  • Maintain high standards of food quality, presentation, customer service, cleanliness, and sanitation throughout the café, kitchen, seating areas, and storage spaces.
  • Order food, beverages, paper goods, and kitchen supplies while maintaining appropriate inventory levels and controlling costs.
  • Develop menus and café offerings that reflect customer preferences, seasonal opportunities, and school needs.
  • Prepare and supervise the preparation of soups, sandwiches, proteins, salads, grab-and-go meals, baked goods, and other commissary items for sale in the café.
  • Recruit, train, supervise, schedule, and evaluate café staff.
  • Foster a positive, team-oriented work environment and address day-to-day employee concerns.
  • Ensure compliance with all health department regulations, food safety standards, and kosher requirements.
  • Maintain production records, inventory reports, and other operational documentation.
  • Work collaboratively with school administrators to continually improve café offerings.

Salary and Benefits

Salary: $55,000–$60,000, plus additional opportunities to earn commission.
